Big info thread as I have a few questions needing answers!

Mainly, my dad's friend does repos and got a talon with no title and a few parts on it and sold it to me for a few hundred bucks because he had nothing to do with it. I checked the serial code on the turbo to double check and it's a GT3082R ball bearing, good stuff! It looks like it may be an older one maybe? Also has a tubular manifold and 38mm Tial WG.
Anyways, I'm curious as to how streetable this thing is? And if it will be a solid turbo for my goals. Also plan on rewelding the wastegate to a better location.
Goals would be in the 450-475 AWHP range. Will be running basic bolt ons including FMIC, intake, BOV, exhaust, clutch, flywheel etc with a minor head build including 272 cams, springs, retainers, lifters. Will be tuning on link.
Also am curious how big of a pump/injectors I will need to safely tune on e85.

Thanks in advance!

Also unfortunately that is the only picture I snapped of the turbo setup

Mod list is also short term, that is just what I will have by the time I bolt the turbo on.

Look for threads on the FP 3065...it's the same turbo. ;)

Didn't know that, will do! Thanks!
Also I've seen people mention that you've rebuilt there turbo across various build journals so I assume you know what you're talking about and I'm curious, can you tell if that looks like an older 30r? If a normal rebuild kit for a GT3082R is good on this? Just looks different than ones I've seen in the past but the serial tells me otherwise!

Could be anything from a 2876R to a 3582R....all look the same from the outside, which is why Garrett puts the part number on the center housing tag. ;)

You can't rebuild GT-series turbos- Garrett does not make the parts to achieve this. Some companies are now offering aftermarket parts to do so, but they're Chinese...and you MUST get the turbo VSR-balanced after performing such a service.

Here is the center housing tag (and I apologize for my lack of experience with these turbos!) Also the reason I ask about the rebuild kit is because I am not sure how long this turbo has been sitting for and wanted to rebuild to be safe. Do you have an opinion on that? Also a big thanks for the info you've given!

700177-5014 = GT3082R.

Again, you can't rebuild a ball bearing GT turbo. You have no choice but to run it- if it fails, you need a new CHRA at a cost of $800-$900.

Yeah that's what I was asking, and there is my answer. Once again I appreciate the help. Any insight on the last part of this post? What I would need to run e85 with this setup?

I've never seen this turbo used without a ported T04S compressor cover- you're running a standard T04E cover as noted by the 3" inlet. I'd say it's pretty safe to expect this turbo to potentially be a surge MONSTER with enough boost considering the 30R turbine is quite undersized for the 35R compressor wheel as-is....when coupled with a tiny a/r DSM bolt-on turbine housing, the problem will only get worse.

We can do a TRBB which will tear it down, clean, inspect, replace gas control rings, and rebalance for $180.

Or I could do all of the above and replace it with our billet 76HTA wheel and T04S surge ported cover for $600. The 76HTA wheel is much better suited for that turbine and will meet your power requirements.

The second option actually sounds perfect. Give me a bit to get a solid plan set up and then I will come talk to you. Is it best to reach you on here?

Edit: just saw your signature. Will email you soon!

I'm actually really interested in having the super 99 compressor wheel installed on my current Turbo. I was told only the 67mm or the HTA 105 wheel will work, but your not offering the super 99 wheel as a upgrade.
