Keeping it stock and regular maintenance pretty much sums it up.

Durrrrrrr

Im reffering to people with heavier moddified cars in specific, once you've got basic preventative maintinance covered etc.

Oil changes every 1500 to 2000 miles, tranny flush every 3000, kiss it good night, hug it in the morning, and slap it on the ass when its been bad... :rocks:

to keep my DSM in good shape, i wash it alot and spend alot of time working on it. I go through it everyday basically... the past week i have probably been under it for 5 hours or so... make sure everything is kosher and whatnot.. i dont do stupid things with it.. hopefully i will start doing some real work on it though (16G turbo, injectors, FMIC... probably a 6 bolt too just in case)... i like it how people say "oh my god, your car must be a pile, you spent soo much time on it" i just say "well, it's called preventive maintenance"... anyways... i also run synthetic oil....and change it at 3000 miles or sooner... the best thing you can do for an engine is to change the oil is what i live by... oil is fairly cheap too..

Mobil 1 works best starting at 3000 miles. You're jsut wasting your money if your using it and changing it that soon.

[not to be taken seriously]Get a Non turbo one. They seem pretty reliable... but then again, they arent much fun.
*notes my shared 96 RS.... :|

1. Preventative maintenance
2. Don't ignore any odd sounds. No matter what.

Couldn't have said it any better.

lets see.....

preventative maintenance always comes first.

do regular maintenance and scheduled maintenance asap - this includes 60k interval timing belts, oil change every 3k and check it once a week or whenever you wash your car is a good habit.

dont half ass things - doing something ghetto might work in the short term, but down the road youre gonna kick yourself in the ass and blame it on the car. so save yourself the time, money and heartache and do it right the first time.

drive it like its gold - you dont have to redline and hit boost after every light. take it easy around town, keep under 50% throttle and 4k and out of boost as much as possible. basically drive it like a old lady would. your freinds might make fun of you, but when theyre asking for a ride to Autozone the jokes on them :tease:

the "good girl" rub down after a good run - its always a good thing to do after a good spanking and hard running is to speak softly to your chariot. tell her how good she was and how proud she makes daddy feel. most guys i know will even rub the cars "soft spot" you know, kinda on top of the console but to the sides ;)

1. Allow yourself to develop acute paranoia in the sense that you're always afraid that something will break. Said mental illness will prohibit you from launching hard, attempt to break traction, and lay on the throttle past 35%.

And the rest will take care of itself. And everything will come close to Honduh reliability. :thumb:

Everytime the moons a night away from full (every 28 days) you have to find something from a V-8 engine and destroy it with thermite atop a sacrificial altar under a dead oak tree. this appeases the gods of dsms, especially Snappus, overseer of timing belts, for he is particularly fickle...

i also paint my body in motor oil, i prefer non-synthetic, the synthetic runs easily and gets between my toes and is all squishy

:rocks:

Oil changes every 3 months(I don't drive enough miles)
The minute something starts to act up, it gets fixed. I mean everything, interior parts, engine.
Oh and I don't drive it like I stole it. It gets babied, the reason cars are considered unreliable, is the fact that most get modded, they get driven hard, and people don't fix whats wrong with them.

if you leave it as stock as possible itll last longer or you could kill it like me and its reliable now cause its been on jackstands since september

Reliably immobile eh?

drive it like you stole it... change the fluids, and ignore weird noises and a shaky steering wheel... i just run mine at low boost levels and use the highest grade gas that i can find.. and whatever you do DONT sidestep the clutch...

oh yeah almost forgot check your timing belt tension and never try to save money on parts..

Buy a 2g automatic FWD tsi or gst. Don't leave oil in for 20,000 miles, keep up to date on timing belt stuff and you're home free. Its all luck of the draw though.

Just drive the damn thing, you guys say they are so unreliable but truley they arent...Any car makin 2-3 times the power of stock will let you down somtimes....But really how often is it???? yes i have wrecked my share of things but if you want the power to kick the crap outta 90% of the cars on the road then the car will break sometimes......

hey

i am really thinking about getting this 97 talon tsi awd or 95 tsi awd and i was just wondering how is a 2g as a daily driver? also how many of you 2g owners that drive it as a daily driver has gotten crankwalk before?

thanks

I asked that same question 5 months ago. Then i bought a 98. did some research and after comparing forums i found that several people agreed that they fixed the problem in 97 which those cars weren't released till 98. I never found out a percent of how many 95-97 had the problem.
