wow after all the horror stories ive heard in the tranny/drivetrain forum i would have thought all the votes would be 1's. my main concern with getting a dsm was drivetrain reliablility but i guess its good enough for most people out there

Id have to say they are just as reliable as any other car but its the previous owners who beat on them and break things. I think the majority of people who bought dsms back in the day were most likely careless kids who beat the piss out of it and didnt maintain it. If you dont take care of it, it will start to nickle and dime you to death. The well taken care of cars still kick strong.

i love my car but mine has broke down way to many times so its far from being a reliable car :thumbdown

well my old gs-t was super reliable. it had some starter noise though and i replaced the a/c compressor like 3 times. :barf:

my new gsx has been pretty good too had some rear end work done. just bearings and seals.normal stuff. but they've both always gotten me where i was going and fast. :dsm:

Sorry, it's just too stupid a poll. The newest ones are five years old, most of them have already been beaten to within an inch of their lives, and there's no point in asking.

Closed.

Ok now that the talons getting 6 bolt'd and will be a drag car soon, im looking at buying a daily driver heres my choices so far.

1995 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4
automatic
4.0 v6
green
222,548k miles
needs a battery, and something with the fuel it wont start, and might need a tranny or tranny solenoid.
$500

and the other one i found is

1992 Chevy lumina z34
5spd
black
woman owned and stored winters
99k miles
runs amazing just needs a new tire.
3.4 DOHC v6
$1500

what do you guys think

Friend Had a Ford Explorer and within a year had to get the tranny replaced 2 or 3 times. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! Get the lumina - They are fairly quick :D

The lumina is going to be a lot funner to drive and gets a whole lot better gas mileage. I have had a truck and when my DSM is down I drive one but I will never lose the love of the power and handling of my DSM. If you are only using your DSM for track days you will long for something faster and nimbler than the ford. Also I HATE FORD'S and I love CHEVY'S.

Cant you find a honda? I brought a daily driver from an old lady, it was a 93 olds royale, it was clean on the inside and ran good, oil needed a change but I was going to get around to doing it, anyway that ####er threw a bearing after 2 weeks. Never again, will I buy a domestic anything, they suck ass. I was buying that car to replace my 92 toyota corolla which has like 195k miles, and needs some new seals and a belt change, but nooo the old's died and the toyota is still running like a champ!

Get a toyota or a honda, save yourself the trouble and headache of a domestic.

^^^
See ive never had an import unless you count my dsm as one <depending on who you are> ive always had chevys 2 blazers, 1 lumina euro. they have treated me good ive never had a problem with domestics. As far as hondas and toyotas go theres not many i really like except for the obvious supra, nsx, rsx etc, which are too expensive, i think if i had to drive a accord or camry around i would kill myself. I mean there great cars and run good and get good gas milage and everything just not my type of car. I was looking at the explorer because i live in maine and it snows 24/7 and its a really nice truck except for the problems, and the reason i was looking at the z34 was because i have wanted one since i was like 10 years old and saw days of thunder LOL. plus it looks good and its rare cuz its the 5spd.
well thanks for the opinions guys, i havent decided yet but will probably go with the lumina as my daily driver, i might still buy the explorer to fix up and sell or give to my dad.

What do you guys think would be the best bet for a dd? Im looking for something that looks ok, gets good gas milage, will run for a while, and is fairly cheap.

Any ideas?

I have similar criteria and am looking to get a VW TDI of some sort, probably Golf. 40+ mph depending on the trans, diesel reliability, and they're cheap. One is for sale locally for 12k.

You know I was looking for a DD around here. Trying to get to it before me huh?

Get mad! :p I promise, lunch next weds ;)

I am looking at the 2k price range, i just need something to commute back and fourth to school and to drive around while the talon is being modded. I am a poor college student, LOL.

I just bought a honda accord for $425 w/235k miles, just broken in for a honda. Good luck on your find.
