general guesstiumates say less than 1% and after 8 years all of them should either have or or they are not going to get it.

97s are excellent daily drivers.

I was as happy as a claim using my 95 TSI AWD as a daily driver until the gas prices started to go nuts. I tried using a lesser grade to save a few bucks and now regret that. The degraded performance running on 87 octane is embarrassing. Bad idea. I am thinking about getting a Harley as a daily driver now. Will keep my Talon forever. The insurance is like dirt and the chicks dig it.

im not really gonna beat on it the only thing i probably might do if i get it is see how fast the car is on the first day. Also if a seller says he got a newer motor and clutch put in can this mean that car might have walked?

thanks

people worry too much about crankwalk

I think that, and Iv had a car that crankwalked.

The thing is, there is sooo many 2gs out there with absolutely no problems what so ever. I know of quite a few 2gs with more then 100k miles on them still on stock blocks and never had any work done to them.

its possible that since the car has a new engine and clutch that the engine had walked...its also possible he spun a bearing, broke a rod, ran the car without oil, deicded to rebuild the engine for no reason, or several other reasons why this stuff was replaced.

I have a 93 non turbo with about 115k miles and it runs like new. I have not done anywork to it besides oil changes every 3k. EVERY time I do an oil change I add a quart of MArvel Mystery oil to the crank. An old pilot told me he swares by it for his plane so I do the same for my talon. Try it out.

$500 Pontiac Sunturd beater... Keeps the milage off of the DSM also keeps it out of the salt and snow..

i just purchased a 98 honda civic ex myself ;) parking the dsm even though it has been just as reliable as a honda to me. 100k on the clock and still running full synthetic :D

every bodies got this right, my car runs perfect, granted i dont have to many mods. I drive it very slow, my friends make fun of me. i only buy the best for the car, i baby it and always let it warm up and cool down. i baby it beacause it is my baby. I used to beat the hell out of it, things started to break, i fixed them, now i drive careful my wallet cant afford anything else to break so i only drive hard when i race.

hey

i finally decided to get a 95 tsi fwd with 77k miles instead because their cheaper but its automatic and well sorry to turn this into a crankwalk thread but what are the symptoms that a auto would have?

thank you

I honestly think crankwalk is over-rated as well. I did a 6-bolt swap, but not because of crankwalk. Of the 20 or so 2gs I know around here, none of them have walked. I'd say as long as you keep it stock, you should be able to drive it just fine as a reliable DD...just take care of it and make sure its in good running order and it should treat you fine.

alright thanks i keep reading more and more about crankwalk and some of the things people say are really calming me down and thinking that its just like very slim chance of getting it.

I have a 97 gsx dd, stock bottom end with 135,000 on it, and have had no problems with crankwalk, and I get about 23-24mpg out of her, thats with all the mods in my profile, so you should be fine. You'll never regret buying it.

it's only reliable as you want it to be. if you start modding it and pushing it to it's limits ofcourse it won't be reliable. but if u leave it pretty much stock and semi-baby it you shouldnt have any problems

My car is not stock, but I take very good care of it and I have never had any problems with it. I think if you keep up the maintanence on them, and don't drive like a madman, then they are very reliable cars. I don't understand why people always say that DSM's are not reliable. My friends say the same thing, but they don't know sh#t.

Never had a problem here just maintain check fluids belts plugs wires ect and u should be fine

eclipses are very realiable. depending on which you get I try to explain it like this 420a reliable but no performance, 4g63s performance less reliable. as the trans never really have problems either auto or stick. and for people that say that 4g63 are not very reliable they can be as long as you tune your stuff right and baby the living $h!t out of it. and I mean if theres dirt near the tail pipe get a baby whip and whip it. I've worked on all 3 motors 4g63,4g64 and the 420a. as long as you drive it like a normal car they will last for a long time I have a 420a that has 200k miles. with no problems.

Eclipses are very reliable man. my 96 gst has 167,000 miles on it and it still runs like its new. the only thing that has happened is the clutch started slipping and the turbo went out. but thats normal for a high milelage car.

Any 1g that you will find MOST LIKELY will NOT be cause the MAJORITY of them have already been beat to death

..now what do you mean when you say "drive like a madman"

I like to drive my car like its got a damn turbo under the hood and dsm suspension. I mean im not taking the thing off roading and redlineing it at every stopsign...but I don't drive like a pansy all the time either...

...should I expect my car to be "unreliable" because I drive it a lil harder than my old camry? Or should i be fine...?

Well what do you think I mean by a madman. If you are flooring your car at every stop light then obviously parts are going to wear quicker and you are putting more load on the engine so things tend to break more often. If you drive your car a little bit harder than you would if you were just normal driving then you would probably be fine, but I am talking about having a super heavy foot and flooring it all the time. These cars are not stock Honda Civics or Toyota Camrys you know. Be good to your dsm and your dsm will be good to you!
