well since i cant find a decent gsx, i was thinking about looking into the gst's

my bro has a 92 gst and it was a nice little car, but all he ever did to it was an exhaust LOL

this might be kinda of a stupid question, but i was wondering

400hp gst and 400hp gsx? (weighing 3300 gsx, 2800 gst)

what would be the average time difference? is it a big difference?

because i was also looking into a 240sx, and turbocharging the ka24de

(cant find a decent sr20, people are asking way to much for cars with it)

then my next question would be fwd 400hp and a rwd 400hp car? (same weight around 2800)
what would be the time differences?

I could say higher, but you'd just have to know how to shift in certain ranges so the front end can stay on the ground without hopping.

It's called "getting that initial mass moving forward" ... then let it go.

The reason I say 250whp is because our cars have a little problem with traction at 170whp, once you get to that point AWD takes over.

Oh dear god...I didn't read all of this, but has no one really given the correct answer base? It's all so rambled together it's a headache to pick through. The following is going to be based on STOCK platforms.

:: AWD ::
Heavier
Suffers from greater drive-train loss
Superior traction/launching ability (Quicker off the line)
Weight effects acceleration attribute

An AWD is a monster off the line. Due to it's weight, AWD traction and launch capabilities, matching one against a FWD is null. It will be able to break away with near to full traction and immediately be able to accelerate through it's entire power band by the time the challenging FWD hooks up and begins pulling. At the same time, the added weight of a heavier drive train assembly, not to mention the parasitic loss through the more robust drivetrain drains vital HP away from the stock numbers of the 4G63.

:: FWD ::
Lighter/More Agile
Less parasitic loss through drivetrain (less lost power)
Superior acceleration capabilities (Due, mostly, to weight)
Easily breaks traction under heavy load.

The FWD, while unable to match the launching ability of the AWD, has the advantage in terms of acceleration and agility. Due to the lack of a heavy drivetrain, the FWD platform sheds a large amount of weight as well as much more inhibitions brought about through the parasitic loss of HP through multiple moving parts like the AWD platform suffers from. From a roll and in terms of acceleration, the GST is superior. More power is easily transferred to the ground, granted, keeping traction during this transfer is where FWD becomes largely scrutinized.

I agree with most of what you said except for the superior launching aspect. Being that these are STOCK numbers, the AWD almost launches TOO good for the horsepower, resulting in either bogging or riding the clutch. Some traction loss at the line is fine IMO.

Most of us aren't used to stock AWDs or ones that run at stock specification. Trust me, a stock AWD in good running condition will launch much better than that of an equally running FWD. As with anything, it just takes a bit of practice.

Why it's good to know how to read the tach and actually "feel" and "hear" for the right shiftpoint when your at the right place on the torque curve to be in your favor.

Too high or too low on the torque curve and you've hit the ball on the handle of the tennis racquet instead of the 'sweet spot' where the most effective results are in return.

I think Suba owners face the same dilemma or condition with their new cars for they're all AWD units... and they wonder why they have to have the bigger 2.5L motors and fuel economy isn't the greatest with any of those vehicles.

Now, with this topic with Suba and AWD, I heard that the big issue is with AWD's is that you'd better be keeping up on the tire rotation on a set regular basis as changing the undershorts after taking a shower.

For if one tire, or a pair of tires get's just a fraction smaller in diameter, it starts to raise all sorts of hell with the viscous coupling since it's engaged all the time driving both axles...and rear end differentials suffer with this problem ..(prob why one sees a lot of Outbacks in the used car lot ... rear end diff problems are starting to show ...)

ok here is a question. what is the fastest stock GST time anyone has seen. i did 14.7 in my AWD w/ intake and exhaust. havent seen completely stock. and that was in el paso with shitty air and altitude.

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T (Auto) 7.4 15.5
1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX 6.4 14.9

these are the 2 times i found with a little google'n. now it didnt specify wheather both of these cars were auto or manual so i guess that could come into affect. but i can say that ive seen someone with an auto hold his foot on the brake while pushin the gas at the line and build boost before launchin so i would have to say that the auto/manual arguement is almost moot. the only benefit to the GST other than maintence would be straight line highway performance where traction would have no affect and top end would come in to affect.

From a dig a GSX will pull ahead but due to the higher gearing (as stated above) a GST will catch up and overcome a GSX. A buddy of mine (95 GSX w/ full exhaust on a 14b) and me (99GST w/ a 16g no other mods) would mess around, on a closed course and everytime I would pass him by top of 3rd gear. Take that for whats its worth I guess!.

how is that even a fair AWD FWD comparison the cars are no where near the same.

Its already been said a bunch so far; AWD. BUT, look at cost effectiveness here. I searched and searched for a 2g GSX for months and everyone wanted an arm an a leg for their stuff. I just settled with a GST. Needs wider tires to help hook, nothing KDWs cant solve, but other than that, I am happy

This is completely irrelivent to the question at hand and you provided no helpful information to the conversation. :banghead::toobad::mad::nono::ohdamn:WTF:shhh:

When my car went fwd on me one time, i couldn't hook in 3rd gear, with drag radials.
