Why are the 1g's faster than the 2g's for the 1/4mile?

I noticed that for the 1/4mile times on this site the majority of the top cars are 1g. Is there a reason behind this?

because the 1g are ugly and its only good for going fast when a 2g looks good and you keep it an every day driver.

and when we say fast we are talking 8 and 9 i hope because there are plenty of 2g in the 10's and 11's

You see so many on that list because they are cheaper, lighter, and their factory engines are more durable.

Even if your joking, that isn't a cool thing to say. I own a 2g and find 1gs to be very sexy.

Anyway, in stock form, I've actually found most 2g awd's to be faster on average. But the fastest stock dsm I've heard of was a 1g. 1gs are very nice vehicles. A hell of a lot easier to work on than the 2g's and they have a bit more pontential in draging.

1gs are a bit lighter than the 2g, which makes it better for draging. They also come with a larger turbo, intake manifold, and throttle body; which makes it perform better on the top end. As you can see through a few threads, the 14B is capable of pushing cars into the low 12s, which the t-25 will most likly never see on these cars.

But through personal experience, I've found the 2gs to ride and handle better.

They both are great cars, I've owned both of a 1g and 2g. I like them almost equally. The only reason I like my 2g more is because of they way it handles.

i think there is several reasons why 1g have better 1/4 times:

-they are lighter

-they are much much cheaper so people tend to buy them more as drag racing platform

-there are more 1g rolling chassis' avaiable

-most 2g's end up totalled and not worth the repair

Or maybe the reason is that the people who buy 2g's don't have as much money left for mods after paying extra for the 2g looks LOL

I do prefer the looks of the 2g but around here they are way too expensive - around $16,000 for a GSX, opposed to $2000-3000 for a 1g TSI AWD

There cooler,,
thats all we need to know.

:p

people are more willing to go all out with a 1g.. i know if i had one id be faster because id have another daily driver and the 1g would be totally stripped out. resale value is still an issue with the 2gb's.. give them a few more years of depriciation and they will probably become more common in the low number range. most people on the street would consider a 1g to be an ugly car, the 2gb's still look fresh.

wtf?? Seems like a 1g would not be worth the repair in an accident considering its blue book is considerably less than a 2g?

what i meant is that you don't see nearly as many 2g's in junk yards or other that are in good condtion other then busted engine/tranny/powertrain etc for little money. Most are either funcional with full price or totalled and useless.

ok gotcha. :thumb:

there is a very simple and logical answer to this question. You see quarter mile times are not actually based on the horsepower or weight of the car..but rather a system where the digits in the year the car was made determines the actual 1/4 time.. for instance...

91 talon tsi awd= 9+1=10 second quarter mile

now lets equate a 96

96 eclipse gsx= 9+6=15 second quarter mile

This is why first gens are faster.

I hope this explanation made things easier to understand for you guys! :thumb:
