my car spun a rod bearing on the way home from work. i'm still kinda suprised it lasted as long as it has. my car is a gsx with 180k miles on it and from what i can tell it has never been rebuilt. it even had the stock timing belt and balance shaft belt.

so how many miles did you get out of your engine before it let go?

my one non turbo eclipse had over 200k so and it was still running just the rings were getting worn... all depends man.

113,806 until balance shaft belt broke and ruined my year... Misterbeechy if its not your turbo, then valves seals could be junk. A lot of times if you give it gas and let off driving or not they'll do that.

I just turned 213K last night in my 99 GSX. The car had a rebuilt head and had the turbo rebuilt at about 156K.

There are other threads about this same topic btw.

I'm 184K on the chassis, but a JDM VR-4 motor was put in around 135K. Freeway driving with cruise on at 80 and still hit 31mpg on the straightaway..

But the secret is OIL CHANGES on a regular basis, run synthetic oils, and keep an eye on the dipstick along with belt and associated component changes.

Daughter's 4G37 in her '91 with almost 200k and still holds oil real good and no lifter tick. Only thing I did motor wise was a camshaft seal and belts.

Heard situations of over 300K on motors before overhaul..and it's usually a head job, bearings, hone the cylinder walls and rings.

Stout motors these Mitsu's are ...

But, "Woah, I didn't answer the original question. I don't plan on doing any rebuilds right now if I can help it."

(true, 180k on the original belt-bet that thing was all but dried out and teeth as hard as a rock with hardly any flexing. That's just too unbelieveable to be true, but it has to be true if he quoted it...)

My engine builds do very well. My last 3 builds ended up needing freshening up before a full build. So far my first mitz engine has like 70k and has great compression still and almost nil bearing wear. if your rings are in good shape and the head has over 50k if you want a couple more hp you can do a valve job and maybe get a couple numbers back. If its a less than 350whp build and your on top of maintenance (water pump, timing belt, tension er, coolant, oil changes) the engine should last a long time 50-100k. Most die before that because of oil starvation, oil contam, bearings eating themselves or rods getting ejected. Most common I have seen is detonating and blowing head gaskets and detonating and wearing rod bearings prematurely.

My baby has 166,XXX on the clock and the engine still pulls strong. Bought it off some dude who kept it in his shed off the road since 2003.

I had all oem stamps on all the visible parts. That rebuild was amazing.
