Hey there,

Ricer here :),

I was just curious, about how much labor/money would it be to have a GST turned into a GSX? What parts would I need to get and is it worth the trouble rather than waiting for a GSX (Since they're unbelievably hard to find around here)?

I know things here and there about "looks" and things in that general area, but when it comes to engines, I'm no smarter than the average guy. Don't get me wrong it's not that I know nothing, but I'm definitely not knowledgeable enough to know how to swap a FWD to an AWD.

Thanks for your help in advance,

Mark.

You could be one of a kind and make a custom tranny for your 420a LOL

Its been done. Gofer is probably the most knowlegable on this and will more than likely chime in.

doing a awd swap on a GST isnt hard at all. I know I have done it but it requires alot of labor and its fun to do in my opinion but it can be costly so it may be cheaper just to get a GSX first off.

Sorry sorry I forgot to give my reason to the question :ohdamn:

But yes I'm looking on Craigslist for a GSX every day, all day and have found nothing but wrecked GSX's for 2800 and above, but I found this beautiful stock GST for 3800 or something around that.

So since I've had absolutely 0 luck trying to find a GSX, would it be worth the money to just get the stock GST (Super clean) and swap it...or should I just keep on keeping on basically...?

Sorry bro, forgot to mention that
Also, I'm planning on selling my current babe as soon as I get the AWD. N/T is just not for me....

Thanks for the feedback & the link - I'll go check that out right now.

You think so?
Damn...ok well it was worth a try I guess. Thanks anyway guys! I'll still check out that link just to gain some knowledge on the subject, but I'm gonna trust your opinion when you say it's not worth it.

I'll keep on keeping on for now :D

It can be done definitely, I did it, but it does require a lot of labor and some friends. Read everything over and over and familiarize yourself with what needs to be done before attempting the project. I thought it was fun but it would not be fun for everyone.

Best bet would be to find a donor. Trying to source out all the parts separately could be a major hassle. You'll definitely get used to crawling around on your back.

yes just get a GSX. if your goint to spend 3500 on a gst and then another 2500ish on a wrecked gsx thats alot of money just to get a GSX plus the time it takes to do the swap. it took me about a month to do the swap i only had 1 day a week to work on it and idid it witha 1g trans not they typical 2g trans. Yes I said 1g trans and yes it works. Just keep on looking man maybe even travel to get one

@ Gstclipse69 - Although I've loved working on my car and hard labor is nothing short of exciting (especially when I'm learning along the way), I probably wouldn't have enough time to do as much as I've been seeing that would need to be done (Based off a few of those links you guys gave me).

I'd love to do something like this just for the hell of it in the future if I have tons of money to spend, but if I'm really gonna spend that kind of money now, I think I'll just [impatiently] wait for the GSX.

Craigslist, hurry up!!!

P.S. Sorry for posting this question when it's probably been answered thousands of times in the past. I'm a n00b to this whole forum deal so it'll take me a bit to get used to everything. My bad on that though.

Thanks for all your feedback guys. Genuinely appreciated! :thumb:

Honestly, is there that huge of a difference in feel between the GST's FWD and a GSX's AWD??? I've never driven a GST, so I don't know, I have driven a 420a and it felt like a hamster powering the car LOL.

If you are under say 300-350 hp then you wont notice THAT much difference driving at Gst vs Gsx. Anything over that, will make a substancial difference in the amount of traction you get especially from a dig.

That's kinda what I thought, LOL, I wonder if when Mitsubishi designed this car they knew it was going to be modified to the teeth by the people who bought it. LOL
