i need help, is it possible to take my front wheel drive car and turn it into all wheel drive? if so, how much do you think it would cost and how hard and time do you think it would be?
thanks alot guys.

well lets see, youll need a transfer case, a awd transmission (if im not mistaking), a whole rear assembly from a awd car. Oh yeah and since you gota n/t you're going to want to get a turbo set up becasue awd = more parts to move = hp goes down. So you're looking at a LOT of work, if want to spend a good amount of cash and money then have a shot at it, but its going to be a bi***. Try searching to get more info...

so would i be better off moding the shit out of my car like it is. or spend the money making it awd? because i got a buddy with an evo. and i have the same motor. and im looking to beat the hell out of him with my fwd eclipse. thanks.

cody

u have a long ways to go to beat an evo.

First u gota match the performance of the evo, its 271 hp i belive. You probly have around 150hp or somewhere in that area, maybe less. If u really want to beat his evo, sell your laser and get a GSX or a TSI AWD, then mod the hell out of it. Youll spend an unbelievable amount trying to beat that thing. He will still have an advantage off the line with his awd... I went through this my self when i had my eagle talon n/t. My buddy's subaru wrx kept smoking me daily...and I thought " yeah ima go get a beat up eclipse with awd and stuff the drive terrain in my talon, then put the turbo set up in there too. Needless to say, I dont have the talon anymore becasue a n/t fwd dsm is just not smart to modify ...unless you have 15k in the bank that ## itching to spend on your 94 laser...

Don't do it. It's just not worth it. You'll spend more time, money, and headaches on doing the swap just to have less horsepower from the AWD drivetrain loss. Be smart and spend the money on selling your current car and getting a GSX/ TSi AWD. And beating an EVO..You have a long ways to go if you stay with the N/T.
Good luck.

You would be better off finding an awd that had a blown motor, or such and fixing it up. I found one late last year and am restoring it now. While it can be done, you will spend more money and have much more head aches than if you had started with an awd.

Good LUck

there's very few GSX's that can beat an EVO. they're basiclly perfect. so... i'd just give up the whole trying to beat an EVO thing unless you're gunna mod the hell out of a GSX or just buy an EVO or STi. and... you'll never beat an evo in a strett race. ESPECIALLY if the EVO is modded. if you don't believe. watch this clip. it shows how the evo is perfect. granted, this is the FQ 400. it's the britain model. but it's basiclly the same thing as our MR. but it has a larger turbo and better exhaust and tuned better. it's barely faster than a MR. So, i think you're better off trying to beat up on V8's. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5639412376935133899&q=top+gear+evo

take it from someone who's done the swap in a 2g (which is WAY easier then a 1g) it's a lot of work, and $$. Road Race Engineering did it on a 1g a while ago, and commented how much of a pain it was to do on a 1g. The entire rear suspension is totaly different. There's welding and cutting and time involved. You are far better off going out and buying an awd. Don't worry about beating his EVO yet, because you wont unless you have 25g's to throw at it. Unfortunetly your friend has a fast car that your not gonna be able to beat w/o spending thousands of dollars... set your sights abit lower, mod your car and pick on integras and civics, leave the evo's to the ppl with the $$ for the moment.... you'll have your evo(or whatever strikes your fancy) sooner or later

WOW i'm really starting to think that evo's are really starting to get over rated. Same as skylines and stuff, I would rather take the time to build up myself a car and be like, all that horsepower came from my hard work. See if your going to beat an evo heres what you got to do.
1. set a goal on what you want in your case beat an evo.
2. get that amount of hp or over it.
3. get a real good job.
4. then beat an evo so you can say you did and how many people are really going to care?...(none)

I can't say much about 1G awd conversion but, 2g conversion is quite simple. I have performed such conversion on two occasions. Its fairly simple but very time consuming. The only welding that has to be done is on the driveshaft brackets. There's alot of drilling and, very little cutting involved and thats it. The rest is bolt on. Seeing that you have a 1G n/t i wouldn't even recommend such attempt. I'm sure that its possible but not sure if its justifiable. I will leave that up to you to decide.
