i have a 90 gst and a 93 7 bolt gs i was wondering how hard it would be 2 make one of them awd?and which wold be better?:confused:

Well any FWD to AWD conversion is going to be expensive. There is alot of custom fabrication that has to be done to accomplish this. Sush as finding the whole rear drive train out of an AWD, finding the tranny, the transfer case, driveshaft. You could easly spend more money in converting a FWD to AWD then if you were to just buy and AWD and build it. Also you have to figure out which of the two body styles you like better. The 90 GST (1Ga) I like, but some people hate pop-ups. You could always do a head light conversion and have the pop-ups not pop up if that makes any since. On the other hand you could use the 93 GS (1Gb) and not have to worry about the pop-ups. But no matter what body style you choose, converting an FWD to an AWD will cost you more than if you just bought an AWD and build it how you would like it. On top of the coversion, i'm sure you wont want to just leave the engine stock, so BUYING an AWD will be your best bet.

This is one of those things that if you have to ask, then you can't do it.

like i stated before, buy you an awd. put all the money into it that you would put into the FWD to AWD conversion and build the hell out of it. you could have one enjoyable car for the money that would cost.

ok talking about finding a awd drivetrain, how much is one of them woth.. cus the one i have is out of a 93 talon tsi with 133,xxx, and was hit in the front but still runs . would i be better of tring to put it in my 93 laser or selling the motor trans and any other parts?
thanks for the help fellas

We like to take our time here, to make sure everyone has the correct, complete information. Also, so we sound like mature adults, instead of children.

Regarding your question, I'm positive that if you search, you will find all the information you need to know. If not, you'll at least find enough to realize it's probably not worth your time and effort to undertake such a project, unless you have lots of money to burn, time to kill, and access to lots of fancy tools. Assuming you actually do complete your project successfully, do everyone a favor and take pictures and do a complete write-up explaining how you did it. It might be a first, and you might pave the way for everyone else who has the same question you do.

Until then, this thread is locked to prevent the inevitable arguments and useless banter that is sure to come.
