hello i was wondering how hard it is to remove a 7 bolt from its shell on a scale from 1 to 10. The reason being that i need to remove my block to rebuild it and i have never did this before. i would also like to know what tools would i need because i don't want to just go in and tear stuff apart without knowing the right way . thanks

I can get you some pictures if you need to. But here are the instructions for pulling your tranny.

1. Remove battery.
2. On models with auto-cruise, remove control actuator and bracket.
3. On all models, remove air intake hose.
4. Raise on support vehicle.
5. Drain transaxle oil.
6. Remove clutch release cylinder and clutch oil line bracket bolt, then secure at body side without disconnecting oil line coupling.
7. Disconnect tie rod end and lower ball joint.
8. On 2 wheel drive models, disconnect driveshaft as follows:
a. Insert pry bar between transaxle case and driveshaft then pry driveshaft from transaxle. Do not pull on driveshaft, as doing so will damage inboard joint. Do not insert pry bar so deep as to damage oil seal.
b. Secure removed end of driveshaft away from transaxle.
9. On 4 wheel drive models, disconnect driveshaft as follows:
a. On righthand side, insert pry bar between transaxle case and driveshaft then pry driveshaft from transaxle. Do not pull on driveshaft, as doing so will damage inboard joint. Do not insert pry bar so deep as to damage oil seal.
b. On lefthand side, lightly tap driveshaft T.J. case with plastic hammer. Remove driveshaft with hub and knuckle as an assembly.
c. Secure removed end of driveshaft away from transaxle.
10. On 4 wheel drive models, remove transfer case in numbered sequence, noting the following:
a. Move transfer case to left and lower from front side of vehicle, then remove propeller shaft.
11. On all models, support transaxle assembly using jack, after moving transaxle to right lower away from vehicle.
When installing driveshaft ensure inboard joint is straight relative to transaxle.
Align serration, then securely insert driveshaft into transaxle.
Reverse procedure to install.

This post will be helpful for you.

Its not hard at all!! The first thing you will need is, a hanes or a chilton manual.. You can't do anything with out those items.. One of those manuals will tell you what tools you will need to get the job done...

HOW MANY MILES IS ON YOUR MOTOR? I got a haynes manual if you want it, you can have it if you pay for shipping. Or I got a set of Chrysler shop manuals for sale if you want them. Its a two book set.

my motor has a 160 thousand miles on it and how much would you be willing to sell the manuals for ?

You can have the haynes free, just pay a couple dollars(probaly $3.00 for shipping depending on where you live, its just as good as the other set. Just pm me and we'll set up something. I got more than I need.

The hard part isn't removing the engine, it's putting it back in. Just remember what you took off first to get to something else so you can remember the order to put it back together without pulling anything back apart. I'm pulling my first motor out and bought colorful zip ties and zip lock baggies to keep track of everything. Used the zip ties so I know where the harnesses connects and the zip locks to keep track of where the bolts go.

OMG that is so important! A lesson learned from my clutch job.

It's so important to keep everything clean and organized. I pulled my motor and trans out of my car in 2 1/2 hours by myself and everything is in zip lock bags and labeled everything in detail.

Also I would try and locate a service manual. try Scribd and do a search they might have one that you can download to your computer.

Good luck.

I would suggest pulling the tranny out while still attached to the motor,me and two friends pulled out a 6 bolt engine and tranny out of my old talon a week ago, it took us about 30 minutes including pulling the axles out(pita). Things you will need would be: engine hoist, large and small pry bars(for the axles)socket set including large sockets like 24mm and the one for the wheel hubs,a big hammer. Thats all i can think of right now, other than that it is only a matter of draining fluids and unbolting/unplugging things, labeling them, removing the axles, taking the transfer case off(for awd), removing the hood, hooking up the hoist and getting the right angle on the motor to pull it out. Good luck i hope this post helps you i know i left somethings out i just cant think right now. :hellyeah::hellyeah:

what i have really found useful is a digital camera.take lots of pictures. also before you begin degrease the engine as best as you can this makes the job a lot easier. take the engine and tranny out together. just take your time.

its not as hard as it is a pain in the ***. If your gonna have it out for a while sometimes it helps to take pictures of things just for reference. And double check everything once you put it back together. easy to forget to hook something back up.

With the $20 manual from any parts store, anything is possible :) PLus that 2nd post pretty much spells it out.
