What car? Alot of serp belts set ups, 90% have auto tentioners. Usually the rubber gets old and hard witch cause chirping, changing the belt is the way to get rid of the chirp.

, I would tighten the tensioner. If its an auto tensioner I would check to see if the belt is in good condition.

1.) DSMs use a Multi-V belt, not a serpentine.
2.) Your harmonic balancer has failed.

If you keep tightening it it does go away briefly. I dont know if thats bad to do though, I would assume so.

why would that be a bad thing? having it loose is not any better.

Overtightening can prematurely cause bearing failure on the pulleys.

It has prob slipped to the point were the belt&pulleys are glazed(slippery), get a new belt.
