How do i launch my AWD [Merged 6-7]

After launching at about 2000 rpm and quick shifting tons of times this is going to wear out my car. What can I do to make it bulletproof?

Essentially, you can't. There are some precautions you can take, but the DSM driveline just isn't meant for that sort of duty. It's a street passenger car. Treating it like something else will be expensive.

launching at 2000 rpm isn't really launching. Usually you launch at like 4000-4500 rpm, so your not gonna wear anything out anytime soon. :thumb:

you have nothing to worrie about...i launch at 6500rpm...you should be fine

LOL, if you launch at 6500 you had better keep a basket in your hatch to collect youre driveline when it breaks apart.
2k launch is more like taking off from a red light fast, LOL. a launch is 4k -4500, any higher and you lost time as your rpm bog back down to that rpm with wheelspin, lower and your turbo doesnt hold its spoil

I lauched at about 6 when I went to the track and I hit a 12.9 with an r/t of .368 but I may have to try to launch lower- My stock clutch went quick from beating the hell out of it like that- Clutchmaster stage 3 is holding up- Slips after a while at the track though , Hope you have money :p

Yes, but I bet your 60' & E.T. was not as good as if you would have launch at...lets say....4.5k ;)

your reaction time has nothing to do with your ET or 60'. R/T is against the person next to you and with the lights only. the clock doesn't start until until another point to measure 60' and ET. and with your R/T of .368 You fouled. anything less than a .5 is jumping the gun.

anyway back on subject: launching @ 2000 RPMs is like daily driving. launch your car between 4-5000.. but if your clutch is stock it'll be eaten alive... upgrade to a clutch of your choice the most common is probably ACT2100 or 2600.. i have the 2600 and i launch around 4500-5000. shifting your car quickly shouldn't hurt as long as you're in gear before you let the clutch out & the clutch is in fully before you pull it out of gear. Our transmissions are weak.. you can beat on them a little bit.. but it won't take much before they need a rebuild. if you're grinding gears that probably means your syncros are out. just practice and be safe about it. :thumb: :dsm:

uhhhh on my old 90 awd TSi, I lanched at 6,600 or so and lit up all 4 wheels or so my ex told me... THAT is to high to launch (and i had a ACT 2100 in that car)

The sweet spot seems to be 5,200-5,500rpm no spin, no bogging and boost off the line, toss's you hard into the seat too if you make the mistake of leaning forward OMG

Unless they were running with the lights on "pro-tree" setting (like NHRA). Pre-stage, Staged, LIGHTS-GO! its friggin quick. Which then i think he still wouldve fouled, sometimes the track will have a pro-tree day/night, where a person can get lower then .5 and they wouldnt get a redlight

I launch around 4000-4500rpms. But there has to be a good reason for me to launch, outside of the track. about how many launches is the stock clutch worth? and is that rpm-range somewhat safe for launching? ( i know any launching is not "good" but its better then a 6000-dump ) I also make sure everything in my drivetrain is "tight", like i roll up to the line and stay there, i didnt creep back a little bit or, when i take my foot off the brake, its not gonna roll back or anything, that way theres no "slack" in the system before a launch.

My 60' was 1.76 or somewhere around there - It wasn't bad - It felt like a good lauch - I do have a question though... I'm upgrading to a FPGREEN and hoping to make about 400awhp- How long do you guys think my stock tranny will last if i go to the track maybe once every 2 months and launch at about 5500??? Also can some one just quickly tell me how much better an external wastegate would be on the green because that one I'm getting is internal- Thanks

i would definetly have gone external wastegate on a turbo of that stature. they can put down quite alot of hp, and i dont believe an internal gate could control as accurately as an external wastegate.

A perfect light is .400 on a Pro tree. On a Sportsman tree, it's .500. He redlight either way.

2000 rpms is NOT a launch. Get a rebuild if you're worried about breaking stuff. Shep/TRE. And get the external for the Green.

Any other questions? :thumb:

ok here it goes i just bought my 92 talon awd, i was wondering if anyone can tell me a few tecneques to launch it with out bogging off the line. thanks :talon:

I got good launches by reving to about 5k -5500 let out on the clutch until you feel it grab, then drop it and get on the gas (this may take some practice), launches hard without the bogging. It will put some wear on your clutch however.

from my experiences...ive been teaching myself to launch out at either 5500rpms or 6000rpms...man...the experience of AWD launching is...mind blowing...boggles the mind body and soul :p the last launch i did was AWESOME! backfired and spun all four 1st...cherp'd all 4 in 2nd...and just TOOK OFF...its a beautiful machine. :talon:

It works well when you catch the rpms as their rising from idle. Just stomp on the gas and, using the clutch, try to catch the engine around 5k rpm for your launch. This way you'll get more boost earlier on due to the load on the engine from acclerating up to speed. The turbo will spin back down if you hold it at a constant rpm to launch it. However you may want to familiarize yourself with how much you can slip your clutch in the first place by holding the rpms constant.

Don't just drop your clutch, and don't slip it too much either. It's a balance between slipping enough to keep the engine from bogging, and losing accleration due to excessively slipping the clutch. You'll just need to practice until you get used to the way your car feels. Also, catching the rpms as they're rising will decrease the likelihood of bogging due to the extra power available.

Just get an Act 2600 clutch kit and you should be good. That solved my bog problems......
