If you can use the hard nylon boost line for most of the length, it should be fine.
Regular vacuum hose is larger in diameter and expands. This can allow for a laggy reading. The reading with small diameter, hard nylon hose may read a teeny, tiny bit lower, but will register much more quickly so you don't get a lag in the reading.
I used regular vac hose to set up my gauge originally, and it took a good 1/4 second to register boost levels. I set it up with the supplied nylon hose, and it registers almost instantly now.

I even had to trim the upper edge of the oil pressure gauge a little bit.
It's right at 2 1/4" in diameter. It BARELY fits in the cluster at it is - if I'd put it over the top (which IMHO wouldn't look right), it would be covering all of the plastic around it and a small part of the oil gauge.
