How do I install a boost gauge [gage, guage] on a 1g, 2g? [ merged ]

If you can use the hard nylon boost line for most of the length, it should be fine.

Regular vacuum hose is larger in diameter and expands. This can allow for a laggy reading. The reading with small diameter, hard nylon hose may read a teeny, tiny bit lower, but will register much more quickly so you don't get a lag in the reading.

I used regular vac hose to set up my gauge originally, and it took a good 1/4 second to register boost levels. I set it up with the supplied nylon hose, and it registers almost instantly now.

cool than for the replies guys. I plan on putting it near my cigarette lighter as you said.

all you need to do is hook up positve with the dimmer wire and ground to the chasis for light. Then you need the hose kit and tap into the hose which is the one on the fuel pressure regualtor. Serach, there are tons of write ups for this.

Heres a good site to help both 1G and 2G out.

ok heres another ? sorry to thread jack but

i was playing with my boost gauge and on the back there was a small ball baring type ball with a hole throw it and when sume dumb ricer in a civic smashed in to the back of my probe i droped it some were and cant find it now so

how do i get a new one
and
how do i hook the vacum hose up to the back of the gauge what type of stuff do i use to hold it in there with out it just pulling out thanks

I dont understand what you mean by ball bearing but for the hose all you need to do is get a hose kit if you dont have one. It comes with the hose and all fittings to properly install it. I know Strauss and autozone carry a sunpro hose kit. Its like 10 bucks. Comes with everthing you need. for the back about the ball bearing question. If you can take a pic that would be helpful.

Got the Autometer boost gauge I bought from a buy on ebay today, so I quikcly set about installing it - The car isn't in running order yet, so I don't have pics in-dash (which incidentally, doesn't exist at the moment) - but I took them out of the car. I don't like A-pillar gauge pods, so this is what I came up with:

Wow, I never would have thought of this. Looks great. The only thing that is bugging me is that the gauge is not centered. Looks good otherwise. :thumb:

umm... looks like the needle might hit.

pressurize it with a bike pump to be sure.

The boost gauge is completely self-contained; there's a glass cover between it and the cluster so no, it won't hit anything - good eye though :thumb:

Thanks... I'd love to take credit for it, but the idea wasn't orginally mine

Yeah, it's a little bit off-center... If the gauge had been a little bit smaller (that thing is friggin' gargantuan), I could've gotten it centered - as it was I just ran outta room.

what you need to do is open the hole up and boar it out and set the gauge in there. so the bezel is on the outside.. you really are going to want to have your water temp gauge i think tho.. you wont know when your overheating

That's a good start. The VDO gauge will fit a bit better with the factory faces. Tell us about moving the temp gauge.

It's pretty much done like you would think it's done. The dremel is your best friend in a situation like this.
I pulled the cluster apart and then carefully removed the old boost gauge (don't wanna damage the tach). I took the temp. gauge apart after setting it all the way to C (although it'll move about some). Using a cutoff wheel and the dremel, I trimmed the temp gauge face to fit over the old boost gauge face, then cut out the center of said boost gauge face so light can shine through.
Once I got it lined up where I wanted it, I used Super77 spray adhesive to tack teh temp. face in place. Used a drill bit to drill out the center hole, and a small one to drill the 2 holes for the gauge itself to be mounted to the face. Cut the back of the tach housing w/the dremel to make room for the gauge itself, and put it together.
Then I cut down the 3 screws that originally held the temp gauge to the cluster (also serve as electrical contacts, btw) so I could screw them into the gauge snug. I attached jumper wire to each screw, ran it through one of the old boost gauge contact holes, and cut & soldered to the temp. gauge contacts on the backside.
The hard part was the boost gauge, because it was soo friggin' huge. You would not believe the amount of plastic I cut out to make it fit OMG I even had to trim the upper edge of the oil pressure gauge a little bit.

I have my water temp. gauge - look at the stock boost location :D
As far as boring the hole out - can't be done. I don't think you appreciate the size of this boost gauge :p It's right at 2 1/4" in diameter. It BARELY fits in the cluster at it is - if I'd put it over the top (which IMHO wouldn't look right), it would be covering all of the plastic around it and a small part of the oil gauge.

IMO it would look much, much better if you pushed it threw the hole and had the face on the outside. Doesnt look good the way it is.

Trying to make it easy on myself here. Does anyone have a boost gauge install for a 2g gsx?? Anyone know where i can find one, and i did search, and i couldnt find anything

i just installed a boost guage today and it says at wot my max boost is 5psi.... and that i dont even hit 5 psi till just under 4k rpms.... i mean my stock boost guage reads 10psi... i have a 16g that was set to equal the stock 14b output (previouse owner told me) isnt stock for a 14b around 10psi? i dont think a 16g is big enough to push the same power with half the rpms...

also my air/fuel guage's (didnt have time to install today) light is hooked up yet i see no light from it... did i wire it wrong or does the light not come on until everything is hooked up?

How did you install the boost gauge?? if you did it right, it is correct. Stock boost gauge is just a calculation.

and how did you instal your A/F if you didn't have time to install it?? What's hooked up??

saying it's hooked up but not installed is pretty generic.

everything on the boost guage seems good... no kinks in the hose... from what i can tell it seems perfect.... about when do most 16g turbos hit full boost?

i installed the guages into the pillar pod but for the air/fuel guage i just hooked up the power wires... i wired nothing into the ecu yet...
