How do I install a boost gauge [gage, guage] on a 1g, 2g? [ merged ]

I know someone already asked but since you didn't awnser. Where and how is it hooked up? What vacume line did you tie into? What did you use to make the connection?
Hopefully the 0 vacume is a sign it's not hooked up properly.

k i figured it out, thanks to kineticboost... seems my vacume lines look a little different than the ones in the writeups i read.... i taped into the wrong one basicly... works perfect now!

I win!

and if you haven't tapped the signal wire for your A/F..... no shit it's not showing anything, you kinda have to give the gauge something to read :thumb:

*edit* and you don't have to screw with the ECU to get it to work, read the VFAQ on it, there's a signal wire in the passenger kickpanel.

just was wondering the average negative number everyone idle's at on their boost gauge, mine was -15, then i tightened some fittings up, now it's -25, is that normal?

At idle it should be between 17 and 22, mine runs at 18, On de-accelaration letting off the gas while driving it should dip between 20 and 25.

ok, cool, thanks for all of the replies!!! was kinda scared... one of my friends that thinks he knows it all about eclipse's said it should read 0 and I was like... nooo that cannot be right

thanks guys :thumb:

You're friend is a moron. If your car didn't make any vacuum, you'd have serious problems.

Like the guys said, mine runs about 20-21 at idle and as low as -24 letting off of the gas while driving...

so if i am reading close to -30 when i just let off the gas is a bad thing?and if it is bad then what might the problem be..when i am idling i get around -20..

Autospeed.com has a interesting article about diagnosing engine problems using nothing but a vacuum gauge. It diagnoses worn rings, worn valve guides, intake leaks, etc.

i already have my gauge installed but i recently got an afpr and i took out the connectors where they were located before and i need to know where i can tap for my gauge now or do i need to put the connectors back on. im talking about the three connectors that run to the stock fuel pressure regulator and the egr solenoid and something else. i got the egr blockoff plate so i took off the three connectors and now i need a boost tap.

do you have a pic? cause i think thats where i ran mine too until i decided to clean up my engine bay and did away with the other end of the vac line where it actually connects to the harness. theres like three of them and your suppose to tap the middle one right? is there some where else i could tap cause that harness crap really clutters up an already cluttered up engine bay.

I no longer run either the FPR or Purge valve solunoind (both on the firewall).
Just take the vac line that plugs into the #1 intake runner and cut, install a vacume "T" and run one vac line directly to the FPR and the other to the Boost gauge.

If you were still were running the FPR solunoid (which cuts vacume to the FPR during cold starts), plumb the "T" between the intake and solunoid. If you did it afer you'd get "0.00" vac for a bit after a cold start.

i was searching through the forums to look for info on how to install a boost gauge and i've noticed lots of people said that the autometer gauges are missing something for the installation. could anybody tell me what is it that's missing?
