I have a 97 gsx bone stock, I want to install my boost gauge but I don’t want to get a side pillar or any of those things to put it in. I just want to put it out of the way but still be able to check it every now and then to make sure the boost isn’t creeping. I have looked around have found no other articles about this and haven’t really found a good spot looking in the car. So my question would be do you guys know of any good place to put my boost gauge with out it being the first thing people look at when they get in the car?

You want your gauges to be within line of sight while driving, otherwise its a bit of a hazard. Whats wrong with it being seen? Going for super sleeper mode?

Yea im kind of going for the sleeper look, also the interior of the car is mint so I feel like getting one of the pods would ruin it. But you make a good point that it would be a bit dangerous to be out of sight.

Get one of the pods that adds 2 gauges infront of your cluster. I don't believe that having a boost guage is going to make it any less sleeper....

A good sleeper place is inside the driver door vent pointing up. It makes it not visible from the outside, hard to see from the passengers side and easily visible for you when you want to shoot a quick glance.

So when I wire it would I just drill a small whole down through the vent then run the wire and line with the speaker wire through the rubber hose to where I need it to go?

Well in that case there is a solution but it's a bit pricey. It's a defi HUD (head up display) looks like a GPS when not in use, you see it in your window as a reflection so the unit doesn't show up too much and you can read out a whole bunch of other info if you wanted to (just need to buy the separate sensors).

you could replace the vent all together with a pod (keep the vent untouched if you ever want to bring it back to stock) but yeah, essentially exactly like you said.

I guess you can try one of those electronic boost gauges. I believe my old greddy turbo timer had an input for boost if you bought the add on. This way you can toss in arm rest or something

I didnt want to add no A pillar due to the fact that robbery where I live is retarted scary.
My sister's car (base model 2008 jetta) as a matter of fact was broken into last night...####en assholes took a GPS her iPod and pretty much $140 to replace the window.

Anyways, what I did is I went to Prosport Gauges and bought their 52mm gauge holder with the swivel and taped it to the kick panel. If your a big guy then chances are your leg will hit, I'm skinny enough to clear ir perfectly, and besides it's not like im gonna have my eyes glued shut to the gauge every time im driving.
If you want pictures I'll be glad to post.

The defi link vsd would be nice but they ended in April 07 so as per their site check with distributor stock to see if you can even get it.

Another place to mount a guage since op said he wont use it all the time is the lighter location. Its down out of most peoples sight and shouldn't be any more of a safety issue than adjusting your radio.

Granted yes, it's discontinued but it surfaces on ebay every now and then. Although the gauges and BF series are discontinued (not the advance version) sensors can still be bought new.

I still say keep it within LOS. Your boost climbs very fast and you will normally want to watch it for more than a split second. A logger would be a good way to really study whats going on with it if you still wanted to stuff your gauge in a corner somewhere.

Yeah man if you want to go with something not visible to other drivers you can get the ones that go on your cluster. Ive also seen ones that go in your vents for your A/C and heat. you can some that you can fit a gauge in and still have your vents or completely delete your vents and fill them all with gauges.

Just something you might want to consider, you said that you don't want a pillar pod because you don't want to upset the very nice condition of your interior, ok but if you purchased a full pillar pod you could swap in the OEM pillar and the new one at any time - thus preserving your interior.

I was going for the same thing you were OP. I did not want to get a pillar pod because I did not have the gauges at the moment to fill them. I ended up placing it here. It is not in the way at all. Looks like it would be. But it is not. It is also very secretive and stealthy. People have asked if I have a boost gauge and look in my car and tell me I don't. Even people just walking by and looking in don't know. It also is not visible to passengers. Only person it is visible to is the driver.

Next issue one would say, would be visibility. I do not have a problem with that at all. You can actually see it clearly through the left hole of the steering wheel. I have no problems monitoring it when I need to.

not going to lie but i hope thats not ## car in the picture.. the gauge looks pretty dumb there
:barf:

The original poster asked about hiding a boost gauge in a 2g. He asked, I delivered. Had this like so when I first got my car, as for I needed a gauge to monitor boost. So I took this route, rather than duct tapaing and gorilla glue like some would. Only way to "hide" a gauge is to bring it below the line of sight.

That's what the gauge looks like in the door, good fit, nice and tucked away and keeps the flow of the car undisturbed. Just thought I'd give you a visual, easier to see if you like it. It's not my car though

My solution to not using gauge pods may not be as clean as some people like but I think it works out really well. As the gauge has been there for almost four years now. Check this link for pictures http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-parts-feedback-reviews/274165-zeitronix-zr-2-multi-gauge.html

I basically used an electronic gauge which is very thin and flat and I just ran the wire out next to the gauge bezel right to it. It is double sided taped to the dash.

I also really recommend the zeitronix systems if you haven't bought a gauge yet as having boost, wideband O2, and EGT in one gauge is pretty handy. As well as the fact that it feeds data to my ecmlink nicely.

Everybody started posting pictures..so here is my setup.

Wow I have a lot of options im going to give a few a try to see what one works best for me. I also have the black and tan interior so I thought a black 3 pod wouldnt look good but I did find one that comes in the tan color to match.

But first I think im going with boostingst's set up that is where I was thinking about going at first I just didnt know how to mount it, but in the picture it looks nice there. Thanks every one for the input!
