So since I got robbed i have been thinking of new ways to install my audio equipment without it being stolen.

Yes I know I need to buy an alarm but I dont have that type of money just yet!!!!!

Anyways, here is what I am planning on doing.

I would like to try and fit my subwoofer amp under my passenger seat. Does this sound realistic????

Also I saw a picture of a guy that put his sub in the middle of his back seat.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/app...t-subwoofer-but-like-your-trunk-solution.html

Also all of the screw i use i want them to be some type of security screw that can only be taken off with a certain tool.

Also I will make sure I take my cds faceplate everytime I leave the car.

I think that these mixed together should hopefully get the job done until I can afford an alarm system.

So far I have to go cheap on my Audio equipment. I ordered a
Pioneer DEH-P1900MP, and I have a LF Driver that is used for professional audio (It was givin to me by my job) JVC 2206h. Temporary until I can purchase a new Car Subwoofer.

Ok first of all you definately need an alarm. There are dozens of good alarm companies out there that have a good cheap alarm, take some time and look into it. Next, the amp will fit under the passenger seat, I have my mids and highs amp under mine. You will have a hard time trying to find screws that have a special key, i mean if u really want to do something then use a flat-head screw instead of a phillips or go and buy some screws that can be used with a socket. The faceplate is always a good way to go. Now, for the sub in the back seat. I like the inventiveness however i don't believe it's practical!!! A sub works by pushing air and seeing as though it will not be in a box then it is like just leaving a sub open in the trunk and will definately not work as well as it should. A better idea, seeing as though you are already thinking about not using the back seat, is to put your seat down and use L brackes to attach the sub box to your seat. use some of the socket screws for that so it is harder to steal.

You definitely need to get an alarm first.

Also amps will fit under both the passenger or driver seat, lucky you that you have an NT. If you had a GSX with power driver seat, there is no way it will be fitting under there. Also it will be clear sailing in the passenger seat being an NT you most likely don't have the Infinity sound system option amp already under the passenger seat.

Putting them under the seats however limit you to the amp you can get. It has to actually fit down there. Most decent amps are fairly large, so you have to shop around to get the specs you want. Also might have to pound the seat bottoms to make more clearance. I obviously am speaking from experience.

Personally I think doing what that guy did in that link you showed with the sub in the middle is horrible. It looks odd, your advertising your equipment even more, and losing functionality of the rear seats if you actually need to use it for emergency transport. Also lose being able to do the split fold function to haul items that require them.

As far as screws, you can make it harder for a thief if you use allen bolts, or even better, Torx screws/bolts.

Also always remove the face. This almost omits you from being able to get any single din dvd motorized screen, because I have yet to see one that has a removable face. Even when people have removable face, they get lazy. That one time you get lazy and leave it is when disaster strikes.

The bottom line is, if someone wants what you got, they will get it, these theft deterrents are just that. You just hope the face not being there, alarm installed, and no other components showing discourages them from jacking your car.

Yeah I think I will end up using torx screws for the screwing things down. That sounds like a good idea.

It also looks like im not going to do the sub in the back seat idea. :-(

It would be cool to have to sub hidden. But it doesnt sound like that is going to happen

The only reason I dont want to get an alarm now is because I know that installation is going to cost me an arm and a leg.

Why not keep the sub in the trunk and have the trunk cover still attached? No way they can tell a sub is in there. If you're ever too lazy to take the cd faceplate with you, just hide it underneath the seat or put it in the glovebox. If I recall correctly, our gloveboxes have a lock on them that only the ignition key can open.

Yea just hiding the face deters thieves. Even if you just put it in the glovebox. Keep it simple, sub in a box in the trunk, and make sure you have the hatch cover. No one will know.

Alarm install is not hard, especially in the 2gs. The hard part and the costly part is installing it so it's hard for thieves to quickly disable it. If you have the brain right there, its simple to remove.

And you better believe "basic" alarm installs are simple and nothing that makes it difficult to remove it as it was to install it. Hardcore alarm installs include backup batteries, several sirens, hiding the brain deep in the dash where they would have to rip the dash apart just to get to the alarm brain.

It won't take more 15 seconds to break your window/slim jim your lock, pop the hood, and unhook the battery to turn off the quick basic alarm install.

That's the reality of it. If you want the best security, you will have to pay or do some crazy installs. Just remember that is still not 100%.

I installed my deck last night and it looks nice. I just ordered a viper 791xv from ebay. It seems like it is a decent alarm. So hopefully things will be a little better.

I dont know about you guys, but when I hear an alarm going off i ignore it. I know most other people do. IMO an alarm is useless.

well I got this one because it has the 2 way pager. The only place im truly scared of is at my house. So my car parks basically in front of my door

I had a custom box made for my car. I'm running one 10" dual voice coil. The dude at a local shop made a box that fits between the two strut towers, right behind the back seat. I drilled a couple of holes inside the box and bolted it to the frame of the car, thru the inside of the box. Installing the sub will make removal impossible.
If you do something like this pull up the carpet in the rear and you will see two big holes. Get a few big washers to hold the bolts in place. I'll try to get some pics up so you can get an idea of it. The amps are under my seats, since I got sport seats the brackets pushed the seats up enough to fit the amps. Plus as added security , use phillips head screws and drill out the phillips design. It'll be a chore to take out, but get a back out bit to remove them you should be OK.
I live in a tough neighborhood and have to think of this. So let me know if you need any other ideas.

A real big thing would also be driving down your street with everything super low or off. That saves you a little bit of trouble if you don't try and show off that you have it. Second is a hatch cover(I think thats what they're called but I forget because I don't have it anymore) Trouble is having you sub fit under it. Remove your deck when you are out of the car(throw it in the glove box if need be, in the case of course). Other than that get an alarm, you can get really cheap ones that still work.

I always take my deck with me and have it hooked up to my alarm, it's actually quite nice unless you forget your deck somewhere and don't have the bypass remote.
