How do I install a boost gauge [gage, guage] on a 1g, 2g? [ merged ]

You will have to buy a "T" so you can connect it to a vacum line but other than that it comes with everything.

I just tried installing my VDO boost gauge into my Talon, and routing the wiring was a little harder than I thought so it took a little while. Anyway, I have the vacuum hose connected to the boost gauge, butI didn't connect any of the electrical wires yet. To see if the boost gauge was working, I started the car up but gauge stayed at 0. Should my gauge work mechanically without the electrical wiring? I don't want to route everything, mount my gauge, only to find out somethings wrong and it has to all come back down. Thanks.

I'm not too sure about VDO's but if it is' anything like Autometer gauges, the electrical wiring should only be for the backlight. As soon as you start your car, the gauge should drop down into vac, You either have it hooked up to the wrong vac line, or there is a really bad kink in it somewhere. My suggestion would be to take the vac line right out, bring the boost gauge with vac line attatched around to the engine bay, t the vac line into where you think it's supposed to go, then start the car, see if it moves, if it's working properly, then you have it in the right spot, and can re-route it back into the car.

Yeah I might have it hooked up to the wrong line because the pictures in the VFAQ's are missing. Alright, I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks.

Alright, turned out I T'd into the wrong line. I have it working now. However, I can't get the light on the gauge to come on. I lead one wire to a ground, and the other to the GAUGE fuse in the fusebox. Isn't that right?

autometer warns that those lights can burn out if you run them all the time.... life is even worse while running on hot days. If you want to tap the positive off the hot side of the dimmer switch by your left knee. This will dim the dash lights slightly... but I didn't really notice the difference. Now the light comes on when you turn on your parking lights and fades lower if you are bothered by the bright light.

mine are only on when the car lights are on and iv never had one burn out yet. not to mention the bulbs are cheap to replace anyways.

When you say wire it to the cigarette lighter, are you running the wire all the way to the lighter or are you cutting into the line for the cigarette lighter?

He's saying stick the positive for your illumination into the cig. lighter fuse. A good ground is the seat belt track bolts. Any ign ON fuse will work fine.

Okay, thanks for bearing with me guys. I got it working, but have 3 questions:

1) My boost gauge doesn't register until like 2 minutes of driving. Can this only be caused by a kink? If so, I am going to cut my pillar wack where it is covered by the pod to ensure the vacuum line doesn't get disrupted.

2) I tapped into the cigarette lighter, but the gauge lights up anytime the car is on. Would the only way to change this be to tap into the dimmer switch?

3) My VDO gauge is pretty dim, not nearly as bright as my stock gauges. Is there anyway to make it brighter? Maybe if I run it to a more powerful fuse?

Good things - The gauge and pod fits nicely, and looks 100% stock. I couldn't be happier with them.

I also changed my hatch supports so I can finally lift my trunk.

I'm really retarded and can't figure out how to install my boost gauge :D , so can someone give me a link or something. Also the boost gauge is supposed to come with some sort of t-fiting thing right? Cause mine definetly did not come with one. :notgood:

Also is there anywhere I could go get a t-fitting? Would a place like Autozone happen to have one?

apc :barf:

tap into a vacuum/boost source such as the intake manifold or FPR and run the line to the boost gauge... then wire the light inside the gauge with 12volt and ground

alright a newb question for any1 i guess...

i got an autometer boost gauge phantom series..

0-35psi...(no vacuum) yep that one
