How do I install a boost gauge [gage, guage] on a 1g, 2g? [ merged ]

advance auto parts and autozone should have some vacuum tees in the HELP! sections.

I work at a new england auto parts chain and our HELP! section has a bunch of different sizes. I know i've seen it at the other stores too, but check advance auto parts first.

I got a assortment kit from autozone, it has all the sizes in it. I've also seen them in Pepboys.

I just got an Autometer phantom face boost gauge. How do i install it?(not the electrical part, just the boost line) Thanks :talon:

I am planning to move my boost guage to my glove box for my own preference. The thing is I can't find any more nylon tubing that came with the gauge. Can i just use a vacuum hose and connect it straight to the guage itself? Or should I use vacuum hose to extend it most of the way and connect it to a couple of inches of the nylon tubing and have that connect to the boost guage?

I bought a cheap boost guage and there are three wires coming out the back. I've searched on the subject and pretty much every install has to do with an autometer guage or two wire set up. The wires coming out of mine are red, black and yellow. I'm assuming red and black are power/ground? What is yellow? And there have been so many differing articles about where to hook the power and lighting up. Can someone tell me or send a link showing the proper way?

is it a machanical or electronic? mines a vdo and has a two wires setup and the main boost line...u got a pic, if it's electronic i have no idea...manual, just worry about hte power and ground...

It's a mechanical. It has the boost line plus the three wires coming out the back. So if all I need to worry about is the power and ground, would that be the black and red wires most likely? Also, there was only about a foot of wire coming off the guage and I wanted to splice into the wires behind the cigarette lighter which is much further away. Can I splice any type of wire for length?

Hey when I got my car the boostgauge was already installed and after reading all of the guage installs I havent ever seen one done like this. Can you tell me if it is ok? The guage still works so I know it works but are there any disadvantages of it being here? The tube isnt Teed so could this be throwing my check engine light?

From what I understand the best place to get your boost source from is the nipple all the way on the right front of the manifold (as you are looking at it in the picture). Just get a vacuum T from the local auto store. I don't think I would go disconnecting vacuum tubes from my throttle body.

I can't really tell where the boost gauge is hooked into from that picture, but as long as it is hooked up to manifold vacuum, then it doesn't matter exactly what hose you tee it into.

When I got my car it was on the "P" line coming off of the tb, but I suppose if the all mighty Defiant says so, I will change mine as well.

My boost gauge reads boost and vacuum completely accurate to what the stock car is suppose to read and my stock gauge still works too so I was wondering what the downside to using this tap would be. yea im an idiot i just made the picture up real quick so i could post it didnt notice the typo

because that spot in yellow is the most easiest place to tap for a GOOD reading. If you manage to find the EGR solenoid tap it there for a more accurate reading.

i dont think your suppose to leave that seneloid open like that...ur suppose to T into it...keep it connected to the seneloid and cut teh line and T into it...

More accurate? It's all manifold vacuum. It doesn't matter what vacuum line you tee into as long as it is coming off the intake manifold.

whats up,
I am planning on extending my boost guage to a different area and it would require that I extend the vacuum line about 1 foot. Will their be more of a hesitation or will it effect the boost pressure the guage reads?

where you wanna put it?

as long as you don't put it somewhere stupid i think you will be fine. stupid as in the trunk or the glovebox.
i have seen one put in where the cigarette lighter is and it was fine.
