How do I install a boost gauge [gage, guage] on a 1g, 2g? [ merged ]

well i had my boost guage connected using the rre style version with the t-fitting tapped into the vacuum line for the fpr. i capped the vacuum lines and now it doesn't read. these are the vacuum lines i capped. maf, sensor with two lines, wastegate, the four lines on top of the tb and all of the lines interconnected with those four. now two things scared me now. first of all, my car was only pushing 8 psi (we think cuz of the maf, trying a diff one soon). the stock guage is the same reading as the faze one i bought. now with the vacuum lines plugged it shoots right up to 14psi on the stock guage and nothing on the faze. i'm hoping/assuming it stops at 14 or right there near it but i have no way of knowing without my other guage. will it have control of boost after this or do i need a mbc to keep from burning up stuff. also, what are other good places to connect the boost gauge for a vacuum source. could i just take one of my capped line sources and plug it right into that? please guys help. i have a couple friends who really know they're sh*t about this but they went to the shootout.

oh and by the way, my mods are small 16g, and all free mods with a k&n and the capped lines.

y do you have a 16g with only taht stuff...? i though you should do ALL the supporting mods befor eyou think of switching turbos..?

because i bought the car with a dieing turbo with plans to replace it. as soon as i get the two previously mentioned things out of the way i'll be buying all of the supporting mods and then some. i have close to 2 grand waiting to be spent on parts for this thing but i don't dare do anything to it until i know the basics are running right. do you know anything about what i said about the vacuum lines though?

I need a little help with my boost guage install. I read the vfaq on it http://www.myzero.com/gauges/boost.html and I went for the fuel solenoid like it suggested. It's hard to tell from the illustration which one I am supposed to tap into. It says the hose under the blue line is the right one, but from the picture it looks like it should be the red line. I would appreciate any help as this is the first work I have attempted by myself, I have attached a picture to show what I have done

It is a solid black line (below the blue-striped line) and if you trace it, it leads to the center of the intake manifold.

Says its right by there. Goto your intake manifold and check the line and follow it.

That is the illustration I used 98RedGS, I tapped it in the black line. The thing that was confusing me was that in the illustration it makes it look like the black and blue lines belong to the EGR control, but I guess that is just missing from my car. Thanks for the quick help guys:thumb:

These should answer your question quite easily.

I know this thread has been posted a bunch of time just wondering if i can get a quick response tried searching but all the posts i see seem confusing. I got the autometer pro-comp ultralight boost guage. Any help would be appreciated. Just on the install
If you know its been posted.
Then you should search for the post.
Hell, check www.vfaq.com even.
In the turbo section that is.

Thanks. But when I got the guages in (bought them used) the guage itself came with like 7 pieces. (different bolts that screw into each other) i'm not too sure how these exactly should be setup. example : how to connect the house to the guage itself and so on.

as simple as I know how to tell you

I used the plastic clear tubing supplied with it. Have you ever worked on a swamp cooler? Same principle....here are the parts used: the plastic line to the a/f meter you have to use the brass hex shaped nut and the small brass circular shaped fitting called a ferrell and some have a brass insert that fits inside the plastic tube to prevent a kink. in order to attach these all together do this: you have your plastic hose...right? first slip the hex nut onto it...then the ferrell...then the kink protector...slip the hose w/ all the fittings into your meter....pull the hexnut up the the threads on the back of your meter...(the ferrell should be sliding w/the nut) and tighten it all up...but not to tight!!!

run the other end to your intake were road race instructs you to tap into and use the T connector. splice the rubber hose where the instructions specify and insert the T between you splice. Here's where you have to read between the lines . How are you going to connect the Plastic hose to the plastic T? answer: A piece of small rubber hose, small enough to hug the plastic tube and fit on the smallest barb of your T

All better now?

Yea Tee the line off of the Fuel Pressure Regulator vacuum line. It's the vacuum line connected to a gold/bronze circular piece on the end of the fuel rail on the drivers side.

I don't want to do anything half assed so if it's better to probe the FPCS, then that's what i will do haha im in somerset county for who ever asked, as a matter of fact my grandfather lives in brick NJ whom im going to visit today but he lives in a quiet retirement home......not exactly a lively place....lively...man i really need to stop with the crappy puns :shhh:

go here http://vfaq.com/index-main.html then go to the guage section. It took me about 1/2 hour to install

Don't use the vfaq home page for a link. Provide the actual applicable link, or skip it.

Beat me to it!
Good job!

Yea, the boost gauge took me a couple of minutes tohook up wihtout mounting it. It is very simple. The bes tplace to tap it is your fuel pressure solenoid in my opinion. Search for diagrams or look under your hood you should have a sticker. Cut the hose in the middle, hook up the plastic tubing into a "T"(find these anywhere autozone, home depot) and then stick the 2 to connect the hose back together again. The hardest thing is finding a place toslide your tubing through your firewall. Air fuel gauge, im going to install that as soon as i get my gauge pod, (anyone got one for sale?)

And as for your lighting(black and white wire) just ground those to whatever you want...You'll prolly need more wire if you bought it used.

Does anyone have any pictures for 1G? I searched all over and the spot that seems to be the best is the hose to the fuel pressure solenoid.

Does anyone have a picture of that setup on 1G? I looked at 2G pictures but they are different.

Links on the tech articles don't seem to work.

Thanx

Iv seen all the faqs and shit but i cant find the vaccume line im supposed to tap? can anybody explain to me which one it is? sorry

You can tap the one going to the fpr (bolted to the end of the fuel rail by the timing belt) or the BOV or basically any vacuum line sourced off of the intake manifold.

T it to your FPR,I would'nt T it on the hose that goes from the blow off valve to the intake, You get way better reading on th FPR. I T it there and get 18 vaccum and 15psi with no problem.
