How deep is the tranny axle seal supposed to sit?

Just working on fixing this damn passenger side axle seal leak for the third time. Seal seems to sit pretty damn deep in the hole.

You can see where someone repaired the tranny around where the seal goes in. When I was finishing my build and putting the tranny back in I chipped some of that jb weld or whatever it is off by accident which is where my leak came from I'm guessing. But I don't remember the seal sitting this low, I always thought the flap on the seal protruded a little.

Anyways I have silicone on the outer side of the seal so quick responses are appreciated!! Thanks dudes!

That looks nasty but just push it in and youll be fine.

Haha ya I've always wondered what that spot was ever since I picked the tranny up used. I always thought it was an old piece of gum hardened on from heat LOL. Some chipped off and revealed that it was repairing a chip out of the casting!

Ill pop the axle back in now and see how you goes. Much appreciated

the seal should sit flush with the case with the lips being the only part exposed. metal seal you can drive until the seal wall is against the case, with the hole in the seal towards the ground
