So I just put my new axle in, with a busted seal. The seal I got from mitsubishi is like a quarter inch too big around the edges. Is that how its suppose to be? I took a wood block and beat it in, along the way it ripped. I had messing with these axles. I'm gonna end up taking it to a mechanic to have it replaced.

Anyways, is it safe to drive with the fluid level somewhat low? This is a 5spd tranny. Thanks.

The outside of the oil seals look too big. The inside portion, that actually rides on the axle shaft is smaller. Check yours out.

As for driving with low tranny fluid? Fill it up regularly until you get the tranny fixed, better yet, get it fixed. I've driven my car for a long time with low fluid, not good at all. You hurt bearings and synchros. If you can avoid it...avoid it.

You are thinking about the driver side seal on an awd. He has a 2g n/t fwd.

It sounds like you got a seal for a gst, not a gs. The seal should be slightly larger that the hole in the tranny(1/32" or less). When you do get the right one, use a socket to drive it in. Make sure the socket is large enough to contact the steel part of the seal and not touch the rubber part. Also, check the seal on the axle before you install it. It should fit snug on the axle even before it goes into the tranny.

Yeah, the spyder 2.4 tranny is the same basically as the turbo tranny.

Guess i'll be going to get a new seal from Mitsu.
