Very bad vibration through out the whole car. 4th or 5th gear at 3500-4000 rpm. Not while accellerating, only when coasting or light throttle. Tires and wheels in good shape and balance with correct pressure. Front end alined. Vibration feels and sounds like you are running over a rumble strip on the highway.

Any ideas?

Haynes manual says its not the driveshaft since it does it in different gears but same rpm. But I still wonder about that.

EDIT: oh yeah I searched but nothing really fit my decription.

I have a similar problem but noone seems to have an answer. I posted and had very little luck so my advise is start checking what you think it could be....spider gears, axles, exc. I think there is a vfaq about how to check the axels and the driveshaft. Anyone have any ideas??

id first check the T-case fluid, and maybe just change the fluid completly it couldnt hurt. i felt a really bad vib when i was driving through like 4 feet of snow in a blizzard, it sounded really bad, but the roads are clear now and the sound magically disappeared. so id also like to hear other peoples take on the subject.

i just had snow and i got a lot of vibration on the highway and i was thinking it might be because my back wheels had lots of snow and ice caked up around the inside of them. did you have lots of snow and ice inside your rims?

ya i did, when i heard the noise it sounded really bad, but as soon as i got out of the snow and crap and drove on pavement for a while it went away. it was weird

ok well, when i get out to my car im gonna try to get that crap outta there. its like frozen slush so its probably a good 4lbs in each wheel, probably throwing off the wheel's balance.

Yeah, this happened to me too. Horrible vibration and it felt like I was hitting rumble strips. It would only do it when I was coasting. It went away under acceleration and braking and it got worse, the faster I went. I thought I checked everything, but it turned out to be the first thing I checked...... A loose wheel......

I have it fixed now. The Carrier bearing mount bolts snapped and the CV Joint came apart and was hitting against the oil pan. They said it had been doing it for awhile because has put a pretty good size dent in the oil pan. Thanks anyways though.
