Hood Scoop and Heat

Does anybody know where I can pick up a good hood scoop for the 1st gen Eclipse? Will it really help with releasing heat as much as I hope?

No. Twice.
DSM knew these things were hot when they built them. They did the worrying about it for you, and took sufficient measures. Engine compartment heat is non-consequential to the engine. And, the neighbor's cat is quite appreciative in the winter.

So any hood scoop whatsoever that will move more air through the engine compartment would be helpful? I do understand that it was built to withstand such heat, but why make it withstand it if it could be a bit cooler?

check into www.carbontrix.com for one of their carbon fiber hood vents. One of those should help to pull out some of the hot air from the engine bay.

A hood scoop will do nothing but worsen your aerodynamic efficiency for nothing.

A hood vent would do the trick. Check out the site mentioned in the previous post.

There was a point in history, before all this new-fangled carbon fiber shit, that the first choice was louvres. Worked well-enough on the Jag E-Type.

yea i have an evo 8 style hood on my eclipse with the hood vents and i have to say that the engine bay is cooler then what it usto be. And i can work on it quick if i need to without burning myself on the ic piping anymore.

As far as hood vents go, where's the best place to put them? And would you put them on a stock hood, or get another one? Pics could be helpful as far as where to put the vents... Thanks in advance!

i was wondering about this too...i was thinking either to do one big vent over top the valve cover...cuz ive seen that done...or pick out a pattern that u like...like the evo's pattern an put it on the hood...or maybe even the mitsubishi logo would look sweet on a hood made into a vent

a vent right over the exhaust mani/turbo is a lil better placement-
