Alright so i picked up a nice conditon 98 GST auto with 155k miles on it. Its stock runs and drives fine but idk if its worth actully parting up. All the tuner kids around me hate on it because its auto but i expected that but ingeneral they say it sucks because its front real drive. Are the miles hurting me that bad that if i part it up the engine will most likly blow? should i even part it up at all? can this car ever beat a AWD with the right parts and a confint drive? some good adive would help. Im just confussed because of all the "evo" and 40,000 tuner cars kids have that mommy and daddy baught for them just keep putting me down and luagh at me even thinking about parting up this car. I came here to ask these questions because i see really nice gst and gsx with high milage here that would proble smoke any of these kids.

If the body is good, I stay stick with it and rock the Auto trans, theres alot of options for auto's, replace your end-clutches, install a shift kit, and you will be able to handle a good amount of power.

by "parting up" you mean modding it right? I almost though you meant part out as in selling it for parts. As for it being FWD, i thought it wasnt going to bother me too much when i got my laser rs, but it got to the point where the torque steer, the no wet traction, and having to say i had FWD were too much and i picked up an awd shell to swap into.

As for the auto, when i look for a car if it has an auto i dont even look anymore and go on to the next one, but if you like it then thats all that really matters.

BTW 155k isnt that bad as long as the compression is good and you keep up the maintenance and treat it well.

You've got a good car man, don't worry about it, in stock form you'll beat 9 of 10 ricers out there, and the ones that it doesn't aren't ricers. the '98's didn't have a big issue w/ crankwalk. so build that bi***. keep it up, maintain, keep better care of it than your girls ####y. and if you want, in a few years or whatever you'll find an AWD shell, or a bone stock AWD that everything can be transferred to for cheap. Auto isn't a terrible thing in one of these either, I prefer the 5 speed for things like auto cross, and that's what I run, but if you're into drag racing it's actually better to run auto because the throttle body never closes for a shift, that way boost never stops. so do a standing pull against one of your friends in a civic and tell them to eat your shit after you stomp them.

yes i ment modding sorry and were can i buy shift kits for a 98 gst i cant seem to find them? how much does it cost on average to install a shift kit because im sure u proble need a lift to install them im guessing.

gasoline - see thats what i dont understand i keep up with my friends manual 09 civic vtec and he has a full exhuast system. all i have atm are headers yet they still put down my car im like wtf >.>

You have a good car in your hand. I too own a GST but a 95 and currently I am building her engine from the bottom up. Well, still in the tear down process but, I'll get there eventually with enough time. :) That 4g63 is one hell of a motor with enough balls you can throw anything at it without worrying as long as you tune it right. Look for my progress in the DSMJournal section. Good luck!

That would be it...you can either install it your sell or send yours to ITP , they do some other mods to your valve bodys to make firm quick shifts.

looks nice man...i thought all autos where slow but my friend has a 1g gsx auto and it pulls hard... i never knew that about autos...i still like my 5 speed but if you built your auto it will be fine:thumb:

yea its alright. i bet with a decent fuel setup, maintenance and a boost controller you'll be the fastest car on the block ahah. people just talk crap because they are either jealous and they roll in a honda, or the only thing they know about dsm's is breaking down because "one" friend had one that blew up. dont listen to them haha.

yah thanks guy i just orderd a exhuast but its a 4inch tip is that going to look bad i mean its only 100 bucks.

Actually, if your going to have a FWD an automatic is probably the way to go. The auto's have more potential if you get crazy with power. They can also launch pretty consistently. I was never hugely impressed with my FWD 0-60 times but then again I never ran an upgraded converter or shift kit. Anything from a roll I liked the automatics WAY more than a 5-speed, downshifts are done without even thinking, just mash the throttle. A good electronic boost controller with a remote activation button is all you need to launch consistently on FWD, and maybe some sticky tires. It can be done.

I wouldn't mind going back to an automatic, as long as I had different stall speeds and shift kits available, its a better street setup IMHO. Automatics suck up a little more power, but the FWD vs. AWD probably makes it a wash compared to an AWD 5-speed.

yah i already orderd the shift kit now im just looking for end clucthes cant seem to find them. Also i want my car to be around 275 horsepowr atm so i can get a feel for decent speed before i go close to 400. What kind of parts am i looking for to reach my goal for around 275. Atm i have headers, orderd an exhuast 4 inch, cold air intake and aftermarket airfilter. what else should i look into to obtain my first goal of around 275 horse.

also would this BOV make a nice realse sound? 50MM BOV Blow off Turbo G35 G37 350Z S13 S14 S15 BLK : eBay Motors (item 380211437640 end time Mar-08-10 13:35:07 PST)

That valve doesn't even look like it will bolt up. Please don't buy parts for "cools sounds". Get yourself a 1g bov and be done with it.

Also head on over to the upgrade path and take a look at whats going on there. But ignore step 9, the breather filter. That's bad.

Why is Step 9, "Valve Cover Vent Breather" of the Tech Guide bad?
I would like input on this cause I just finished all of the stage 0 guide.
Why would they put it in the tech Guide if it was bad?

were is the fourm for that? and whats number9?

At the top of these pages click Tech and then Upgrade Path. It gives the basics on what and when to upgrade. For 275, maybe upgrade to a walboro 190 fuel pump, 550cc injectors, an safc2, 1g BOV, BCS mod or boost controller, aftermarket boost gauge, and a wideband air fuel gauge. About $600 worth of parts and you'll be close. The Stock t-25 turbo will be maxing around 250 though I believe. You can go for a nice bolt on turbo upgrade and better intercooler set up after these parts are set on your ride. And 95% of these cars have a 4 or 4.5 inch muffler tip, some like them some don't.

Bov's on autos are not going to matter as much, it only blows off when you let of the throttle. like others have said get a 1g bov and you will be fine.

I don't think he meant bad as in it's harmful it's wrong stay away. It's cheap easy and basically will do its job but for a limited time. For many people will slap on a cheap $5 filter and then ignore it until it's so soaked with oil that it sprays all over their engine bay. The stock setup connecting to the intake pipe gives the system a vaccume which will help remove more of the vapor and pressure from inside but the negative it adds a slight oil film inside your intake intercooler ect.. For those who don't want to spend money or time on a catch can set up the $5 filter comes into play.
