Well fellas looks like the gigs up on holset turbos. Everywhere I look it seems the price for these things have gone up. Im not in the market for a turbo, I picked up my HX35 about a month ago. How much did you pay for your Holset?

i paid 325 shipped.... 7 blade hx-35 mint condition. MINT.

they are getting very expensive nowadays compared to what they WERE before.

i was able to pick up an 8 blade back then shipped for about 225$... 7 blades just better.... and harder to find...

I paid $250 free s/h. Looks like I got it just in time before prices started to rise.

got mine from a buddy that pulled it at a junk yard for $100, then took it to a holset dealer for a complete rebuild for 390. so a total of 490.

Just spread the word that they are over-hyped. Running 8s with a later spooling turbo with big muny in your setup with far different tranny/rear gearing should drive these prices right back down.

There's too may used ones out there. 99% of us don't need the 7blade compressor flow since we're going hx35 bolton. You can get the flow of the hx35 7blade with the run off the mill 8blade hx40. And you can get the same spool speed out of such hx40 hotside with the bolton housing as the spool speed of an hx35 hotside that will be large enough to take advantage of the 7blade hx35. And you'll still have a bolton turbo to boot. If anything is overhyped, it's the 7blade hx35 vs. the goal of the owner.

Wh1c is just like the 8blade hx35, wh1e is just like the 8blade hx40. Only real difference is the vband compressor cover that actually makes life easier for a non-stock turbo swap.

I traded an old Turbonetics "60 trim" for my 7 blade HX35, and I just bought a 7 blade HX40 for $230 shipped. It was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up, so I can now let it sit till next year or so when I'm completely done maxing out this HX35.

WH1C for free, but it looks like I will be spending about $140 to rebuild it myself.

Are you saying that an hx35 7 blade is the same as hx40 8 blade in BEP housing? Like same flow, same spool? I keep hearing the 7 blade hx35 is the best flowing hx35, etc. But now you got me thinking on whether I should ditch the hx35 7 blade for an hx40 8 blade?

Both hx35 7blade and hx40 8blade compressors flow about 60lb/min.
Keep in mind the hx40 will spool roughly 400rpm or slower in a .55a/r bolton housing due to its larger turbine.
But you most likely will not be able to max out the hx35s 60lb/min in the bolton, where as the hx40s .55a/r bolton housing has already been pushed well past 60lb/min
So its gonna depend on your goals as to the best route
