Holsets price on the rise

Bought a used Hx40 6blade from Goldfarb a year ago for $215shipped
Sold a few months later for $450, LOL

Both hx35 7blade and hx40 8blade compressors flow about 60lb/min.
Keep in mind the hx40 will spool roughly 400rpm or slower in a .55a/r bolton housing due to its larger turbine.
But you most likely will not be able to max out the hx35s 60lb/min in the bolton, where as the hx40s .55a/r bolton housing has already been pushed well past 60lb/min
So its gonna depend on your goals as to the best route

Ah I see, well I decided I will be going with a borg warner turbo, the prices on these turbos are rising way too much. For a rebuilt one from fellow members prices are around 450 to 500, on eBay you can buy used ones in bad condition or decent condition for 350 which look like crap. Plus the BEP housing which is another 300. In the end for a nicely rebuilt bolt on turbo you will spend around 1000 dollars. I keep switching my mind, but I will try a brand new s256et turbo for 1000 dollars which is a straight bolt on. Unless these turbos start to drop in price :)

You just have to look around and be very quick to decide if you want to buy a used holset, the one i bought was from a guy parting out his car and he needed money fast, no shaft play up and down or in and out, no chipping of fins, spun freely. The only thing was the oil seal needed to be replaced, plus i knew even if the turbo was shit i could make my money back on the bep housing. Once i put it on and sell my old 14b and manifold plus j pipe ill be like 100-150 into this including new oil lines and welding, i think its well worth it.

Yes see above. Prices have gone up for the suckers. But you still see too many go for little. Don't forget the wh1e and wh1c options. And, the VGT turbos sell for basement prices. For a good used hx35 I consistantly see 300ish, and not "look like crap". $250 housing puts the turbo at about the same price as a 16g. If you go 20g, 50-trim, fp3052 you either have to or should run external gating. So that particular cost need to be added across the board and isn't relevant to anyone wanting more than a 16g. It's nice to get a turbo that flows significantly more than a 20g or 50-trim for under 600.

Ebay isn't the only place to buy used turbos.

I forgot to mention that I sold an 8blade hx35 with older carbon steel bolton housing for $500 in the classifieds here about a year ago. I thought that was a fair price. It did go quick :). It had the nice coupler style compressor outlet and zero shaft play with a teaspoon of oil in the chra.

Just bought my HX35 today for 200, it is an 8 blade but it will always work as a spare for my 98 Cummins truck also.
