Mississauga,
Haven't seen to much talk about these turbos in autocross. I want to road race my gst. I know fwd isn't the greatest platform, but ill just be going out to a few local tracks. Are the holset hx35 or hx40 ideal? I'd be running the 2l motor with 272 cams and might build to a 2.3. Prob pump-race gas with meth not ethanol because its not readily available near me.
Thanks

My plans are to build up my FWD into a road race car using a 2.4l and an HX35. With the data I've seen on that turbo, I think it'd be an excellent road race candidate. Not as quick as a 16g (helps keep wheel spin down), but full boost by late 3k range or early 4k range. The HX40 would probably be a decent choice as well, but just figure in more lag.

I might use the HX35 for more open auto-x layouts (look into Porsche club events), but definitely not for some of the tighter, more technical courses the people around me design. The HX40 would be out of the question as it would just spool too late IMO.

I have a HX35 7-blade that I plan to road race.
It will be a full twin scroll set-up though.

According to the Holset threads, bolt-on housing 7-blade HX35's are seeing 20+ psi by 3500rpm in a 6-bolt with stock intake manifold, head and 272's.

Based off my experience at the local road courses, you'll be more than pleased with 20+ psi by 3500rpm on a 2.0L with a HX35.

With a GST, you'll have a hard time keeping the tire from lighting up.
Get a Quaife and spend money on your brakes and suspension before trying to go any faster... believe me.

I'm out braking and out cornering cars that cost more than 10 times what I paid back in 2006 for my GSX.

I just found out what my new wheel/tire/brake package was able to do this past Friday.

Lets just say that I now seriously need seats, 5pt harnesses and a Roll Cage before I go any faster!

I hope to get the twin-scroll HX35 up and running by early January, if not sooner...

I think the tracks by me aren't too technical. How much power are you guys aiming to put down with the hx35? And yes I do plain on getting a lsd, another have tires and am putting together koni-gc setup for suspension.

i was also wondering about this though our courses are quite tight and technical. I think i would be happier with the stock turbo and maybe a 2.2L

Yeah, I'm running around on tracks like Laguna Seca, Infineon and Thunderhill.

I know the HX35 is good for 500 to the ground at 30psi.

I'm sure I won't need that much power, but it will be nice to have on tap in case a vette or porsche get frisky with me in the straights.

How many lbs of boost would u be running that turbo with at the track? I'm Interested to know what might be safe.:)

25psi should be more than enough.
My measly 18g is plenty fast to get into trouble.

I'm hoping the full twin scroll HX35 will give me a little more pull when accelerating out of turns from as low as 3k rpm in 3rd.

Well I am reviving this thread. Want to see if anyone has a TS hx35 setup that has been ran on at AutoX or road-course events? What have you thought about it the response of your set up? I have a wh1c TS setup but i have been having some major clutch disengagement issues almost all summer so my car has been garaged, not out at events.

Holsets look big but in reality they are no bigger than an FP green or Red.

Ya but from what I've read, a TS HX-35 will spool close to a Green, out flow it, and out spool a Red. I have no idea how it compares flow wise to a Red.

That is true if you are comparing a single scroll green/red to a twin scroll hx35. A SC red will make more power and the green will make similar power to the hx35.

My tdo5 20g is a dog on the autocross, small 16g is what I'm looking at. You know what help combat wheel-spin? Throttle control.

An evo IX turbo will be your best friend for autox

Yeah, try the SRT-4's td04l 16G with 2.4 liters. I think full spool is 1800 RPM's in 5th gear.

Who cars about 5th gear, what does it do in third? My turbo(I drive an Evo) Spools at 3100 in third gear. I am always on boost in any autox I got to but it is the largest turbo I think I would go to. I have yet to see an ts hx35 graph so I couldn't comment on that turbo. I make 430awhp and it is a lot to handle in an autox to me so once the hx35 kicks you will have a beast on your hands.
