Hole in Engine

Okay so I was basically given a 96 tsi. The previous owner drilled a hole in the engine to remove the balance shaft so i have oil leak. Should I try and save the engine or get a new one?

Dude you should just get a new one ,or go to a junk yard to replace it.

Where is the hole? Is it on the hump for the bs? If so it may have been for a crankcase breather set up possibly. Only thing i can think of.

Reading the posts about the holes in the in the engine, all advice are good ideas ie. junk yard, or replce the part that has that has the holes or catch can. Being a newbie to this site you have to watch out for people scamming you. If you buy something off the classifieds make sure your getting what you paid for. There is know one to help you if someone trys to rip you off. I bought some mitsomoto fans that didn't work and a tail 38 mm wastegate which was a knock off and he does not not return any of the emails or texts. This fourm is an amazing resource but watch what you buy and some the advice is sound before turning up the boost or drilling holes into the motor.

Why would you drill in the engine. Maybe he wanted a oil pressure or temp gauge. Either way I would just get a new one.

Maybe he thought it was ok to do it.

If its a small hole like in the picture I would just tap it for a pipe plug if the block is in nice shape.

I wonder if it is not the factory drilled holes for the oil passage for the front balance shaft.
The ones that are pluged with the small phillips head screws. Maybe the scews are missing. We may never know if the op don't post some pics.

Wow Who would Drill a Hole in their block. , I would Tap it and plug it with a Bolt Depending on the location.
