i was trying to get in front of this dick on the road so i could get to my exit on the highway, and when i went from 2nd to 3rd, i missed the shift and when i hit the gas i went all the way up to 7.5k rpms, and i hit rev limiter... the car studdered and like back fired and i popped it into 3rd and kept going. i usually shift around 5.5k rpms, so i dont know what ill effects hitting rev limiter might do. i didnt hold it at the rev limiter, and it only bounced off like 3 times. did i do anything bad to my motor? also i let it sit for about 6 minutes after i got home to cool down, then i turned it off. i think it sounded different, but that might just be my paranoia (most likely). do you think i did anything? anyone?

no... your car is most likley fine... and you are probably just like me, really bad paranoia about your car LOL i'm the same way :talon:

thanks, i needed that. i baby my car so much, and i get scared whenever i do anything bad in it. like when i peel out i get scared im gonna break the VC or something. since ive had my car, its only been over redline twice. once when i was learning to drive it and i hit red line in 1st gear (LOL) and just tonight... damn.

edit..
if i broke something... the car is under warranty, so it will be fixed. also, if anything broke ill let you know here.

Your a ####y, shifting at 5.5k at WOT? wtf man take that car to 6.5 at least.

Oh and just so you know you didnt break shit, here is a picture of my misshift and this didnt break anything so i find it really hard that 7.5 did. Also i sometime hit the limiter in 1st if its wet out and the tires break loose.

this is using the peak hold fuction on the afc.

whoa. didnt know our motors could rev that high. damn.

also, i got the t2-small turbo in my car still, so its not that much good after 6k, so i just shift at 5500 so i can get into 3rd as quickly as possible cause 3rd pulls hard in my car for some reason.

cool, i still think you might get a little better results shifting around 6.5k at least i did with my t25. I just though you were being a little girl and were scared to hit the redline :)

A couple weeks after I got my car, I let my uncle drive it cause he's a car fanatic, but never again he'll drive my car, he drove that shit up and down hills like its a gran turismo racecar, ####ing took off all crazy then 2nd gear ding ding ding (revlimiter) pops it into third and hit lerlimiter again I was like WTF

hitting the rev limiter won't hurt a 4G63 too bad. The valves don't start to float till around 8.5k or so. Even after that with the hydraulic lifters the float doesn't come crashing down on the cam the way it does with nascar cars. and you gotta go way up there to hurt the rods or float a valve so far it hits something.

doint it often can stress the rods but just once isn't going to do anything (actually to the stock limiter you should be able to survive hitting it many times).

The Rev Limiter is a SAFETY device, its there to save your motor..and the rev limiter is somewhat I on the safe side, in other words I would be willing to bet the car could easily redline to 8K and not have a problem. 7.5K is the safety point. I think the motor would still last awhile taking it to 7.5K every shift.

Yea that is suprising cause rotary engines (known to rev high) can BARELY go to 10K without problems, usually they blow an apex seal. Oh well just makes me feel better about buying a 4G63-equipped car. I cant believe a ####ing 7bolt can hit 9K!!

LOL you think im lieing about that? look at the center vents they are dsm center vents. The little red light there in the picture next to my radar detector wire is the lat little thing below the hazard light button i think is what it is. Also go out and downshift from the top of third (90mph) to 2nd and see what happens. Ill tell you what happens you hit 9782rpms.

Long story short. Racing a bpu+ supra from a stop. Was ahead and went into 4th, didnt go in. So i tried agian, didnt go in again. So i tried again for the 3rd time and this time i shoved hard (i wanted to win! and i was ahead by a few cars) Well it went in, let out the clutch BAM WRONG GEAR it went into 2nd. Worst part is not going into 2nd. It was telling the supra i did that, then telling the t78 rx7 that was our starter behind us that i did it. Belive what you want, i have witnesses so i really dont care. Im not proud of a mis-shift like that. Just freinds are really nice and make pictures for me...

if it really did hit almost 10 k im just surprised it didnt mess anything up...

i had an incident today...i think the guy at a lotcal NTB took my car around back (which was pretty shady) and did a high rpm clutch drop...didnt come to that conclusion until i looked at my guage and it said it was idling at 2000 when i was about to leave... i think the needle that the needle sticks on to spun too much ? i dunno something like that...my guages were off when i put the white faced guages on...i fixed them..and they have been perfect all up until today at the tire shop what shady a$$ stupid white thug b1tch takes my car around back...u guys think that a high rpm burn out might do this to my guages?

Was it that NTB on 202 across from the Target and Lowes shopping center (right before the PA border)? Man Ive had a bad experience with them...there was 5 extra miles on my dads car when we picked it up (i forget what work he had done tho).

when i used to live in delaware there was always a complaint about some NTB. btw, where do you guys live in delaware? i used to live in wilmington near the GM factory that is right there.

My floor mats are kinda loose sometimes and when I am racing and shifting my heel drags along the floor. Thus, pulling the floor mats forward. Twice so far, they have come forward and held down the gas pedal, so when I shifted I was bouncing off rev-limiter. I didn't know what to do, I thought it was the clutching slipping really bad. Then I noticed the floor mat and pulled it off. I've done this twice and nothing is wrong. It must have bounced for like 10 seconds both times it has happened. So whenever I go racing now I put the floor mats in the back seat:D

im down in bear (but i go to school and work AND hang out in new castle so im there all the time). I used to live up in north wilmington off of naamans road (beacon hill townhouses) up until a year and a half ago. Yea ive heard some other shit (not just my incident) about that NTB...its all up on that hill with all those trees...it just LOOKS shady ;)

BTW what part of DE are u in EclipseGST95? Do you live off kirkwood hwy? everytime I go around that area (down rt 7 past the mall right after del tech) i see like 3-4 DSMs at a time!

I hit up about 9800-9900 one time,
I was pullin out of a praking lot when my car was still auto, some jerk cut me off, so i hit the curb. when i did my hand hit the shifter into nuetral without realizing it, all at the same time as me trying to hit the gas to wot to get out onto the road ### of on comming traffic. i heard the engine wind up and i let off, it freaked me out. My hks turbo timer has a function were it saves your highest rpm, thats how i know it got that high
