:dsm: Can somebody link me to some performance ( preferably forged ) and higher compression pistons for the 1g that dont cost an arm and a leg, with rings too?

I was considering getting the 2g pistons but dont feel like going through the fabrication to the rods work, I just want something higher compression than the stock 1g pistons ones that will be a direct fit to stock rods with no extra work needed, and I considered putting n/t pistons and just getting them machined down to a lower compression or something but i dont know if anyone has done that, or if its possible, because n/t pistons would be too high of comp for the compression im trying to run, i want something close to the evos or 2gs compression ratio but something that is made to fit in the stock 1g cylender walls with no mod to the rods or boreing out... Thanks.

( Dont plan to ever run over 22lbs of boost )

I know someone running N/T turbos at the 9.1 compression with no problems. You just need to make sure you have a good tune. I have 2g pistons and it only cost me $50 to have them machined for the rods and I only payed $50 for some really nice used pistons. I would go this way.

if your going n/t y not bump the compression up to 10 or 10.5 comp

Because I still want to run a decent amount of boost, be kind of hard to run 20 lbs on 10.5 compression dont you think....
Besides I dont have nothing to tune it right now anyways, I was just looking for something to give it a little more umph but still be good for some good boosting.

50 dollars for all four, or each? And what about rings did they come with them, or did you get them seperate?
Is there anyway you see I can get that same price on the pistons as you did? And Im not trying to go 9/1 thats a little more
than I desire even though I know that n/t compression on about 15 lbs tuned would be roastin.
And you say only 50 to machine rods thats not bad, if I can find some cheap 2g pistons, (even used)
I think Id gone and do that.

I payed $50 for used ones off of ebay from a mitsubishi machine shop. They where real clean. They did not come with rings, my mechanic included those when he built my short block. The machining cost between $50-$80 at most shops to fit the pistons. If you can get some cheap or good used rings it comes out to be a very cheap set up.

true... I am kind of iffy about ebay though, especially with something as important as pistons...... You didnt have to get the cylender walls bored .020 over or anything because thats what all these other pistons seem to require.... Also did doing 2g pistons make your car feel any faster, peppy? Your compression come out good:?

Well im at about 3000 miles on the motor and have not got to a compression test. The only reason I bought them is because they looked good and no valves had hit the piston. Ebay is hit or miss sometimes so be carefull and you should be ok. I had the block honed but not bored any bigger. The only thing I notice is maybe a little more off boost power and I seem to spool a little faster but nothing major. 8.5:1 compression that the 2g's have are the sweet spot for a 2.0 in my opinion.

your probably right, see the pistons in the engine now the valves had knicked them and scratched into them a little, and I was thinking if I come short of money Id have to just get those pistons machined down ( which would lower compression even more ) and reuse them.... Does anybody object to that idea? ( Would reusing pistons that had valve damage be bad, its not serious damage but you can see the knicks were it was hit. )
