Eagle Rods and Wiseco Pistons, higher compression okay?

I'm considering building a Frankenstein: 6-bolt block with 7-bolt head. I'm looking at Eagle Rods and Wiseco Pistons. They will raise the compression ratio to 9.0.

Will this cause me any issues?

What are the benefits of this?

Will I need a retune since the compression ratio would change?

Thanks for your help with this.

Wiseco makes both 8.3 and 8.5 compression pistons, so you don't have to go with 9.0 if you don't want. Higher compression will make more power on and off boost as well as help the turbo spool faster. However, it also makes it much easier to knock/detonate. Especially if your running a smaller turbo and pump gas. The 2g timing map might be mild enough to run stock boost on pump and small turbo, but I wouldn't push it any father than that.

Thanks guys for both of those responses. The block I'm considering buying is already built with the 9.0 setup so that's why I was wondering more about it. I will do some reading now. Thanks!

Also I'm running a PTE 50-Trim turbo so that isn't small compared to stock.

I've read all those posts. So I have a few more questions now. If I understood correctly it seems that a lot of those guys running higher compression are also running smaller turbo's. I've got a 50-trim which to me is a pretty good sized turbo. Will 9.0 compression play nice with a 50-trim and HKS 272 cams? Is there a boost level that I should consider the top end for safety living in CO with 91 octane at best? Should I be able to put this together and limp it to a tuner on waste gate pressure?
