high oil pressure at idle - was fine a week ago!

all week my car has been running high oil pressure, so today i checked the oil. it was low so i added a quart and it was fine, but now teh car still sits at 40psi oil pressure at idle! what would cause my oil pressure to be fine one week then high the next week?


just a week ago it was fine, but now its being crazy, and the stupid car still overheats and i cant figure why.

Try replacing the oil pressure switch it's 10 bucks new from the part's store. May be clogged or sticking. Or your PCV may be bad. Replace both if you haven't recently.

if you added thicker oil ,that why you getting a bit higher oil pressure

im running 10w-30, same as i was before.

wonder if my gauge is messed up? and what is an oil pressure switch?
