Hey everyone I have a few questions about my knock count.I'm selling my car and it has a high knock count, the buyer is wanting to know about it.I'm unsure of what is causing it. We did some data logging and it went up to 43 counts at 16psi.We lowerer the boost to 13psi and let the car cool down some and the count went down to 32,but after we got on it hard several times the knock went back up to 43.It is a 1g fwd tsi,big 16g,maft,650cc injectors, walbro 255 hi flow, stock SMIC.Could the high knock be caused from heat soak? I just put a fresh set of ngk 7 plugs, and some lucas fuel cleaner. It has had 2 knock sensors replaced from the dealer. Is there anything I can do to lower the knock down? It's weird, the car pulls real hard and performs well.I just don't see how it would run so well with the timing being retarded from the high knock. Could it just be a phantom knock maybe? Thanks for any info

The stock SMIC is most likely the issue. How hot is it were you are? It's probably not cooling the air enough, especially flowing 16PSi on a B16G. They say anything above 30 counts is "certain death" for your engine so you need to fix it ASAP and hope you didn't damage anything! Also what octane gas do you run, I hope atleast 93.

I've been looking everywhere to find answers. It is pretty hot where I'm at,like 90+. The car never leans out from the air/fuel gauge. If I riched up the WOT on the MAFT,would that lower the knock count down any? Or what if I got a FMIC,would that help out any?

whats your base timing set at 5deg?
also take a good look at you fuel pressure while driving
and check your afm readings you could be overunning it with that turbo
Try soaking your cooler with cold water to check it effincy i dont think that will really be the cause but wouldn,t be helping

Ok I'll see if I can get a timing gun to check the timing.Sorry but I don't know what afm is? I don't have a fuel pressure regulator, but what kind of pressure should I aim for?

The FMIC would almost certainly cure your problems, but try what blackvr4 said, throw a bag of ice on the intercooler, then go do a run and see what your knock count is. If it goes away, then you need a bigger intercooler.

afm or mas=air flow metre
log the afm and at the point it maxes out look at your injector duration
i bet your duration is up and down which would mean confused mas overrun.
i ran a hacked mas for years with a standard i/c and got good results but it did heat soak.
my intake temps came down 30deg with evo i/c on a hot day.
but i still had the same problems even after the cooler temps came down.
but by all means dont overlook base timing setup corectly and cam timing be 100% on that.
