I am also waiting for this hood. Dont know how Im going to get this one past my girl though, I have two other CF hoods already. On a side note anyone wanna buy a CF hood?!?

On a serious note: Drew, thank you VERY much for all the work you have done for the DSM community! I believe that your innovations and accomplishments with our cars have really helped keep the spark alive!
 
Not sure if the other guys have wing solutions yet, or are even considering them, but thought I'd share my choice. I worked with Dave at DHP Composites to produce a custom wing for me. It arrived at the fab shop today and I stopped by to check it out. Looked so great I had to assemble it and mock it up on the car. I got the angles on the mounting feet like 98% right and should be able to massage them to shape. Tentative plan is to have corresponding plates on the underside, long bolts all the way through the hatch, and lock nuts underneath.

I'll have to do a real write-up on it in a separate thread so let's not clutter this one with questions.

If you got this hood in fiberglass is it possible to have it carbon wrapped later down the road. I didn't know if the vents in the middle would make it a difficult process. Also, I noticed in the picture of your car when it was silver it has a vent right above the location of the stock air filter. Is this going to be incorporated into the final design because I see it being an issue for a street car with the rain and whatnot.
 
Wing's installed. Holes cut/drilled through the hatch and then threaded chromoly tubing was extended upward in each hole and welded in place. This allowed my hatch seal to still work which I wanted since this is still a street car for a while, and I can keep the plastic trim on the underside of the hatch too. Seems very strong as it connects the top sheet metal of the hatch to the underside. In order to keep the hatch from moving under actual downforce we machined some nylon pucks, one at each rear corner bolted onto the car frame just above the lights. This was because the stock rubber bumpstops deform. Pucks were something like 1.5" in diameter and maybe 3/4" to 1" tall. The mounting feet had to be deformed slightly to follow the curvature of the hatch because the angles I'd provided to DHP were very simple and not accounting for the 3d curvature of the surface, but the deformation was pretty mild and easy to do as my measurements were pretty close.

Here is a picture of the threaded tubes from the underside. I forgot to take pics of the pucks but there isn't much to that. Also a picture of the wing installed. The hardware used there is temporary :)

The wing's pretty damned light and the stock hatch struts, now about 12 years old, hold up the hatch and the wing just fine. Very strong wing/mounts as I can push the car down and compress the shocks without deformation, and I can push the car around the shop pretty easily by just pushing on the wing. Pretty cool stuff. Will just have to see with real track use if this mounting is enough to support this wing or if I have to move to direct-to-frame mount.

Here are some more updates. Had the front diverter created along with the air fences and winglets for the corners. Oh and the tow hook.

Front diffuser is constructed as well but I can't share info on that as it's proprietary.

I have the fmic/radiator/bumper ductwork completed but the fabricator didn't do it exactly like I wanted and so I don't really want to show it. Basically he misaligned the fmic to the mouth of the bumper leaving a whole row below the mouth (and thus out of the airflow), which put the entire ductwork off a bit, and didn't really seal it well around the headlights and to the bumper cover itself. I'll be addressing those later... sigh it's hard to get people to deliver exactly what you want even with very explicit instructions. My solution will probably be to re-work the bumper cover bottom lip (via fiberglass work) to tilt downward to expose the bottom row of the fmic, and use a combination of rubber seals and aluminum tape to seal the ductwork off.

Looking good, John!

I remember reading that you don't need the full face of an intercooler (or cooling item, in general) to see airflow to have it work properly. So to me, if you have a row below the bumper inlet, it seems like it might be a lot of work for very little to no improvement. If you or someone else thinks it would be worth it and has any data to back it up, I'm all ears!
 
Hmm, if the fins aren't receiving airflow that just makes them a heat sink. There's some benefit to that depending on my heat shedding needs, but I'd rather not waste the additional benefit of allowing that mass to transfer heat to the incoming airflow. I'm flying blind on my basic engineering principals here due to my lack of data and knowledge of how to process data. It's quicker/cheaper to get this done right now than it would be to correct later so I'm just going to have it fixed now. If nothing else it gives me piece of mind that my fmic is set up to perform at its maximum potential in this configuration.
 
Wing looks good! What methods did you use to determine the location of the wing plane in relation to the body of the car? Was any CFD used? I'm wondering if Andrew has any CFD data for a factory-roof'ed 2g. I'll be mounting a wing to mine soon, most likely integrating it into the roll cage, if not just the frame, and might need to get with him regarding this.

Sadly my placement is completely arbitrary based on various things I've read and seen. I placed it somewhat high and shifted somewhat backwards in hopes that meant it would get the flat airfoil undisturbed air since the wing isn't a 3D shape tailored to the body shape. I figured if I don't know how this wing will interact with the airflow near the body I might as well simplify the situation by moving it away from that complex area. I also limited my positioning to avoid dealing with having too much... torque? on the hatch and also to limit how goofy the car would look (I'm form follows function but I have my limits heh).

I didn't ask Andrew for tips on wing placement as I felt I'd already burned him out with the thousands of questions I had before working on my wing :)
