so im thinking about getting HID's but i heard that you can only get them if you have projectors, is that true?? because i have the oems. i was looking around on ebay and they tell you to specify the bulb type on your order, and give you a link to the bulb types for different cars. should i select the bulb type for the high beam or low beam??? also it gives me the option for 8k's or 10k's which should i go with. i heard from one of my friends that these are dangerous, but he didnt really explain. heres the link

eBay Motors: MITSUBISHI HID CONVERSION KIT Eclipse Lancer Outlander (item 160287972968 end time Nov-27-08 11:15:32 PST)

thanks

your stock headlight is for halogen bulbs which reflect light differently than HID bulbs. You dont need projectors to run HIDs. Some factory cars come with HIDs that arent projectors. Most people on here that want HIDs usually retrofit stock projectors that came off another car that came equipped with HIDs. If you decided to buy that ebay kit... you would end up with bad glare and bad cut off.. that is probly what your friend was telling you about them being dangerous. Do some more research on here. Many people have already posted about this.

^Not true. You need the projector headlight. You need the projector housing to fit the projector bulb from say a TSX or something. Trying to retrofit into the stock headlight housing is very hard and time consuming and are very hard to align when you can get the cheap ebay ones and remove the junk projectors that come with them. Your looking into about $400-500 to retrofit for a nice set of HID's

I didnt have to do anything but put the bulbs in and bolt the ballast from a bmw HID kit into my cavalier.

WTF dangerous? WTF

i bought an HID kit designed to fit in the back of a 2g's stock housing. i did want to make sure i wasn't blinding oncoming traffic since i wasn't running a projector housing like cars that come with HID's from the factory so i took it for a drive. i had a friend drive past me and in front of me at night to make sure he wasn't being blinded and he said they were fine. :thumb: my car is lowered so that might help bring the actual beam a little lower but i say go for it. i know its a ricer thing to do but from a safety stand point i can see the road 100 times better now, i don't know why i waited this long to get them. heres a few pictures... :rocks: they are the 6k's

I think there is two ways to go if you want HID's.

First option is to get an HID kit from SharpHID.com - Automotive HID Xenon Conversion Lighting Products. They are even a vendor on here! Many people have a set on the forums and are running them in the stock housing. You just have to angle the bulbs down moreso than normal so you don't blind oncoming drivers. Do a search for SharpHID and you'll find some good info on them. They also offer a very nice lifetime warranty.

The second, and obviously better, option is to get a set of projector housings and do a proper retrofit using some TSX projectors. This is obviously more expensive and time consuming, but the end result is much better. You get better light output as well as a cleaner cutoff. There are a few threads around here about the retrofit if you search for them.

As for the bulbs, if you get the SharpHID kit to replace the stock bulbs, you want to buy the bulb that matches your low beam.

As for bulb temperature, I would not recommend 8000k or 10,000k, unless this is strictly a show car. Most factory cars come with 4100k or 4300k bulbs. These bulbs are made to produce the cleanest light and the most light output. Some people are running the 5000k or 6000k SharpHID kit which they love. It gives the light a little bluish tint, but not enough to start taking away from the light output. If you go with anything higher than 6000k, you're going to start to get more and more color and less and less light output. This can both take away from what you can see at night as well as attract unwanted attention (ie cops).

I bought the 35w 6000k from SharpHID and love them. One bulb even dimmed out on me and they took care of it right away and sent me 2 new bulbs. They look great in the stock housings.

Not too many good pictures but:

What did you use so that the cap screws back onto the back of the light?

I am one of those who believes factory is best. If you want HID, retrofit a factory HID set-up. Showing pictures of your headlights with HIDs installd does nothing, you need to show pics of your beam pattern, either on an empty road or against a wall. Most of the color you see on factory HID cars comes from the lens and the optics. The bulbs are generally the same K.

Reflector HID set-ups are difficult as all the OEM vehicles with HIDs have extensive R&D into their output. IMO, the best/lowest cost way to put HIDs onto a DSM is a D2S HID projector retrofit. Nothing else comes close. I've had basically every step of the way on my car, and my current set-up is miles ahead of anything else.

Do it right and do it once. Please read up on HIDPlanet.com/forums and you will be converted.
