Ok, I talked to this guy who has a sweet Caddy Deville around here and he said he got his HID's from a junkyard. Me and a buddy plan on going up to a few today to try and find someone. What all do I need? I know the bulbs need to be able to fit my headlights but if I find some that don't, I'm probably just going to get them and then sell them. So can someone just let me know what all I need to get this project underway. Do not say something like "dont be a cheapass, just go buy some new ones". I do not want to do this since I'm am NOT in need of HID's. But if I can find some out of a nissan or something then I may further this project.

You need the bulb, ballast, and ignitor, if there is an ignitor. Some HID ballasts have the ignitor built into them. It should say or give some idea on the ballast itself. If you don't know where it is, basically follow the wiring from the bulb until you get to the ballast.

And I'm not going to call you a "cheapass", I had a friend that did this and it turned out pretty cool. It takes a bit of fabrication sometimes to make the beam pattern right, but they worked, and worked pretty well, too.

cool thanks a lot. hopefully i can find some at some other junkyards since there were none at the ones i went to today. is there any way you can post pics showing what i need?

look up on Ebay "E55 HID"

look for an exspensive used kit.

Thats everything you will need. Good luck finding it tho Im skeptical you will because new cars only.

im on aim Firebretha6 if you need help but dont expect the junkyard to sell it for cheap.

Well today we are going to some yards around a military base so hopefully there will be some newer cars in there. Yesterday we got 2 valve covers(1g and then a Hyundai) and a shift knob for free. But we bought a fuel rail to make it not look so obvious. We were able to drive through it thats how we got it all. Hopefully I can drive through the other one and get some HID's.

So....your stealing?? :thumbdown

stealing from a junkyard is OK in my book :thumb:

since in chicago the nearest junkyard is selling a 2g motor thats vaporlocked for 3k and a 1g thats side swipped for 4k.. anthey wont part the 1g out... no newer cars with HIDs though.

junkyards are grimey... they charged my friend to get his personal belongings from a car he had towed there a few days before, he spent time in the hospital and they wouldn't let him get his stuff from it.
