6000K HID's Installed!

I was under the impression that hid's only used more power on the intial start up after words they produced more light with less power. Now with the 4300k is what i would want buy since that is what the factory hids come with would the glare from them be worse since they have no color tint to them.

You are correct. The higher inrush current when the ballast first turns on is what can eventually lead to wiring failures in some OEM systems. Even a good system can fail under that stress if there is corrosion or loose fuse holders, etc. in the power path.

Yes, a 4300K bulb will output more usable light than higher values color temps and therefore, more glare. You will have the most glare occur by using a 4300K bulb and it will drop off as color temps go up. Until you get up into the near useless 9000K-10,000K color temp range it does not make a lot of difference as it's all still excess glare in varying degrees of irritation to other drivers.

I pulled up in a parking garage the other day, and he's right the cut off for the stock head lights is really sharp. My passanger headlight is brighter and there is a noticeable difference in the cut off line between the two. Also the dimmer light has more glare than the brighter one. there is glare from both but, I would not think that it would be to bad may just need to adjust the headlights down a bit. I'll go with the 6k because i have seen the 8ks on other cars and its just too deep of a blue.

I have the superwhite (Iceblue) HID's on my 2g.

There 8k's and they look pretty good but i have to go to my friends shop because he's going to rewire them to the battery so they can fire up correctly. My HID's are having issues this past week cutting on. Sometimes one will be off or last night I cut my headlights on and nothing was showing but my parking lights. So sometimes I have to turn it off and turn it back on for that extra kick it needs to fire up.

Those 6k's look really good bro.

This is why you need a harness like i sayd before it's gona keep on doing that till one day they won't even come on..
But (azdave) sayd that's not how the system works.

Dude, stop with your useless posts in this thread please. If I could lock this shit myself I would, seriously. Your HID's look horrible and that's the most glare I've seen of every HID pics I've seen online. My kit did not require harness as the "newer kits" don't require one. AZDave is a respected member (unlike yourself) and he knows his shit especially with lights or anything electrical.

And why are you getting mad??
If you did not notice dum*** the glare is so Bright because i'm taking the picture from the ground.
But ill be the bigger man and walk away than to get mad of a post online..LOl grow up

Who cares if they glare and blind other people,....thats the whole point in getting HIDs

It doesn't comprimise others' safety as long as you align your headlights the way they are supposed to be, if you point them higher that's when people gets pissed

I have a problem lining my HID's up.
I even had my friend at the shop line up the bubbles in the tube where the headlights are but the passenger side light is still brighter than the driver's side. Those Mother-Bi!ches!!!!

Sorry, but you are wrong.

When you use HID bulbs in reflectors intended for filament bulbs, glare occurs well above the cut-off line. Adjusting the headlamps a little lower does not correct the problem.

The reason glare will still be an issue, even with your lamps aimed significantly lower, is because filament headlights are intentionally designed to allow a certain amount of light to escape above the cutoff line. This is so street signs and overhead highway signs have a reasonable amount of readability at night.

Since HID capsules are roughly three times brighter than a filament bulb you now are allowing three times as much light to escape above the cutoff line thus causing significant glare to oncoming traffic and squirrels in the trees.

Concerning the comments further up about needing or not needing a separate harness on your Eclipse when converting to HID...

I forget that many people are using extremely cheap HID kits that are very sensitive to voltage drop. If you use a quality OEM manufactured ballast, the stock Eclipse harness is quite ample to handle the task.

Is the only option to upgrade the housing? Where are products like that available?

I would like to upgrade lights but I don't want to blind the shit out of fellow drivers.

The fact that there is no easy way to do it right is why HID kits are so popular.

The only way to do it right is to install an entire HID projector system from another vehicle that came with OEM HID lighting. That involves much more work to make it fit and provide for proper aiming after the install.

There are a few threads where it has been done. It is usually easier to start with an ebay aftermarket halogen projector and then throw out the crappy projector lens and bowl it comes with.

Next you fabricate the mounts to install a nice set of TSX projectors or similar.

Technically, it is still illegal to do this per DOT regulations but at least you know it is the same ligting system that had passed US regulations for use on public streets and you won't be blinding anyone. The HID kits discussed here are of course illegal too but it is very difficult to enforce a ban so they are showing up everywere.

vanilla gorilla,
If your posts contain sarcasm you should let us know because it sounds like you are saying you could care less if your lights are blinding someone.

Well, that is what I'm saying.
Seriously, noone puts in HIDs for "the safety", its cause it looks badass. Thats why all our Z's have HIDs, to have the pimpinest brightest lights around. But thats just my take on the subject.

True, HID's makes your car look alot more sexy than the average standard bulbs. It did wonders for my Eclipse and many others out there.

Thankfully, you don't speak for everyone here so please don't include all of us in your mistaken assumptions. I can see much better down the road than I ever did with halogens. Yes, HIDs update the look of the car and that is a nice bonus. Maybe you never go over 30 or leave the bright lights of the big city?

I think you should put that statement in your sig so everyone knows up front what kind of person we are dealing with.

Have you swapped bulbs side-to-side to see if one bulb has an issue? Also, check to see if the bulb base is fully seated.

Are sure you actually have OEM housings? It can be very hard to tell the difference physically between an OEM housing and a reproduction housing. If one of your lights has ever been replaced there is a good chance it is not an OEM housing but a reproduction. They are often used by bodyshops for damage repair and they are sold all over ebay as OEM substitutes. These housings look like an exact replacement externally and even include the bubble level.

The problem is that the internal reflector is sub-standard to an Eclipse OEM reflector and you will never get a good beam pattern out of them. Here is a pic of a non-OEM lamp. Do both of your headlights have the "Stanley" name molded in the lower front lens? Also compare the backs of the housings for differences. These are for sale everywhere so you have to be careful when you shop if you are really looking for an OEM housing.

Damn, i didn't know that.
When I bought the car it had one previous owner but i don't know if he or she replaced the headlight. I'm going to check for the STANLEY logo on the headlight and I'll get back to you in a little while. Thanks man, I learn something knew everyday.:D

But I do hit up town occasionally on Friday nights.
I just bought the HIDs for deer huntin, mushroom pickin, coon treeing, night fishing, and when the occasional monkey crosses the road. :tease:
