hey everyone. my name is will, and i'm new to the site. i just picked up my first dsm a couple days ago. it's a 1991 eclipse gsx 5 speed. i bought the car not running, and am trying to get it to start. it turns over, but i get nothing. it has spark and a clean filter, but i found out the pump is not turning on when i turn the key, so no fuel is getting to the cylinders (i also checked buy pulling the line off the rail and turning the key). so basically i'm looking for a new pump. i've chosen to go with the walbro 255lph fuel pump, since my car is lightly modded already. what sites do any of you guys know of that are reliable? i've already searched up a few, but i just want to see what you guys have to say. thanks!

Yeah iv been runnin a 255 w/o a Afpr for a about a 1year and my oil never gets all broken down and gasy, not to say that one day it wont happen as i do know i am over runnig my stock fpr. But untill i get the funds to buy one ill leave it like it is. And yes its a fact you do not need a AFPR with a 190, as it will not over run the the stock fpr nearly as much as a 255 will, so you are safe to run a 190 w/o one. where as your more pron with a 255 of doin this.

For just basic off the shelf stuff like that, you can't go wrong with Slowboy.

You either:

1. Work for or are affiliated with Slowboy, or
2. Have never actually had to deal with them, or
3. Haven't been paying any attention to the threads on this and other forums about them lately.

There are 213352576234 ways you CAN go wrong with them...

This is just IMHO of course.

It should also be noted that overrun does not occur under load conditions. Under load, the fuel injectors are flowing enough to alleviate the extra fuel that can't be spat out by the regulator. So, yes, you can run around town and go really fast without one, but at idle and small load situations you're not going to be getting the optimum A/F ratios. Some people get away with it, some people's eyes tear up at stop lights, it seems to be luck of the draw. AFPR's aren't that expensive, and it's helpful for dialing things exactly as well. With the potential problems, and the cost of fuel, I can't recommend not getting one.

I won't buy from SBR, but this isn't about vendors :D

How do you know zero problems? Can you map wideband? Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Have you smelled your oil to see if it smells like gas? You can't tune out fpr overrun, and i guarantee with that pump you're getting it.

Yes I have a wide band, and a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel filter. Thanks. Regardless, I dont care either way. Argue on the internet, Win special olympics. Same thing, you win, your still retarded =]:thumb:

Are you disputing that you have overrun or are you claiming that overrun is livable? What is your fuel pressure at idle as we speak.

Technical arguments on a site like this where many newbies come on for advice is not retarded, it can have real life consequences. If you truly felt it was retarded, you should have kept your opinions to yourself. Claiming it's retarded after your opinion has been challenged is kind a lame if you ask me.

I had a 190 pump for along time without the afpr without any problems. I have recently switched to a 255hp and without an afpr it idles like trash. I would say with the 255hp it is a definate need.

I've never had a problem with them for off the shelf parts like fuel pumps, etc. I'm well aware that this isn't true for everyone, but my experience tells me that if you need a 255lph HP, Slowboy is a fine choice.

Back to the point of the post, over run is livable, I suppose thats what im attesting to.
I'm glad you're at least not disputing overrun. Many things in the DSM world is livable, a vented BOV, improper tune, underdrive crank pulley, 87 octane gas........etc., the list goes on and on but none is considered a good idea and the long term ill effects are often hard to keep track. It is especially retarded :D to live with a fpr overrun since the extra fuel cost would have paid for an AFPR many times over, why live with something when you don't have to? ;)

Im sorry for attacking astaticbrainwash.
This is the most important, there should be no room for personal attacks in a technical discussion, at least not on this site, kudos for recognizing that.

Aye, thank you for apologizing. I was by no means arguing, just trying to understand why people keep convincing themselves that things like over-run, and venting, ect., are alright to live with.

Wouldn't spark plugs tend to go very quickly also if you're overrunning.

My whole point was not to make this guy think he can't drive his car with a 255 pump unless he has an afpr. Not everybody has the money to buy everything at once/right away. So he can get his pump and drive it as is for a month or 2, save up for an afpr and get it.

Get it? :)
