hey everyone. my name is will, and i'm new to the site. i just picked up my first dsm a couple days ago. it's a 1991 eclipse gsx 5 speed. i bought the car not running, and am trying to get it to start. it turns over, but i get nothing. it has spark and a clean filter, but i found out the pump is not turning on when i turn the key, so no fuel is getting to the cylinders (i also checked buy pulling the line off the rail and turning the key). so basically i'm looking for a new pump. i've chosen to go with the walbro 255lph fuel pump, since my car is lightly modded already. what sites do any of you guys know of that are reliable? i've already searched up a few, but i just want to see what you guys have to say. thanks!

Yeah eBay is the way to go but it can be flaky. Here's a link anyways:

If want to avoid eBay check out this deal at ExtremePSI:

You may also want to look into a Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator (AFPR) but I can't give you too much advice on that because I haven't upgraded my fuel system yet (but will soon).
Best of Luck to you, Tom.
PS: Welcome to the DSM community. :sneaky:

might also try the regluator. had my 95 go out and it was the fuel pump regluator and they are alot cheaper than a fuel pump. see if it is bad.

If you get a 255 you NEED an afpr. Go to extreme psi for the pump, and import evolution for the afpr kit. Those seem to be the best deals.

Also, make sure you rewire the pump. That way you can bypass anything bad if it's a wiring issue (well, some of it at least). You will also get full voltage with it rewired which is a big bonus.

You don't need the fuel pressure regulator right away, just get the car running first. Lots of dsm vendors

extremepsi.com
dsmparts.com
diamondstarmotorsports.com
slowboyracing.com

and the list goes on and on

thanks a lot guys, a lot of responses! very big help, i can tell this site will help answer my dsm questions:)

oh and kahl, why do you say for just basic off the shelf stuff slowboy is good? i was actually looking into one of their longblocks in the near future

If he's putting in a 255 then yes, he NEEDS a afpr right away. Otherwise his fuel pressure will be out of control. Potentially so bad as to wash fuel by the rings and into the oil.

MAKE SURE to get an afpr.

hmmm.....any idea which kind of AFPR i should look into? i'm looking at Aeromotive at the moment on importevolution.com. just not sure which one. i've cancelled the one out, because it's "intended for use with custom fuel rails", which i don't have:D. so that leaves two! the 13105 and the 13109.

I would recommend the one with the real fuel line, not the SS braided. Non teflon lined SS braided has a tendency to leak fuel vapor. Which isn't a good thing. And the Rubber line is cheaper i believe.

Before any of that, check to see if your fuel pump is getting voltage. FP may be just fine.

Check all of your fuses, too.

And FP won't prime with the key in the run position: you need to turn the motor to the start position to prime it.

yeah i checked if it's getting voltage, and it is. i bought the car with a dead battery, i charged it, and now it has enough juice to work all the power, and the car now turns over. when i did the voltage test for the pump, it read 11.80. so i'm pretty sure it's the pump that's bad.

and if i'm going to get an AFPR i guess i should get a fuel pressure guage while i'm at it eh?

You'll need the FP gauge to set the base fuel pressure. Many folks get the oil-filled gauge mounted to the pressure regulator.

ok cool. so, basically everything that will be needed are the fuel pump, the AFPR kit and guage.

Yep! I would make sure you do check voltage like said above though. Getting a pump and afpr is probably going to be necessary eventually anyway, but you need to make sure you're getting something back there period.

Are you kidding? It's been PROVEN you NEED an afpr with a bigger pump. Even a rewired pump increases pressure. A 255 has been proven to kick fuel pressure up WAY beyond where it needs to be. Resulting in an overly rich condition sometimes leading to washing fuel past the rings into your oil.

DO NOT NOT run ANY larger pump without an afpr.

Even a 190 you need an afpr. Don't skimp, i have a 190 right now that i was going to use, but i will need an afpr anyway, so I'm getting rid of it for a 255. Granted the rich over pressure condition isn't AS bad with a 190, you still need a way to control the pressure.

Well, Im still sticking to my guns. I have had zero problems and im completely ok with that. =]

How do you know zero problems? Can you map wideband? Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Have you smelled your oil to see if it smells like gas? You can't tune out fpr overrun, and i guarantee with that pump you're getting it.

Static brainwash, you NEED it once you want to tune the car and get the a/f in line.

But for just driving around and what not, you don't NEED it. I ran for over 1.5 years with a 255 high pressure and no afpr and went low 13s on a 14b. I did get one eventually when i hit the dyno and it was hard to keep the a/f ratio constant.
