Hey guys, I am new to these forums and to DSM's. I just recently acquired a 92 Eclipse GSX with 63k on the original motor :D for $200 got a hookup ;). I am mainly a honda guy, I have a 93 Del Sol with a JDM B16 blah blah but thats not what Im here for. I was told that DSM's have ALOT of problems with them. I'm just here to clerify this, and if so what kind of problems? The car is completely stock right now and I was told dont beat on it if I dont want to break down...Then I was told dont worry about it they are realible cars. I'm not listening to these people anymore, I'm bringing straight to the pros you guys so please help me with some info on these cars. Thanks for all the posts and hopefully I'll learn as much about these as you guys know! ROFL

Transfer case is fragile, don't drop the clutch, I'm running 23 psi with upgraded fuel with no knock. Motor has 164k. Everything you asked is covered in the FAQ section.

I'm not sure where you got that, I have never heard this before. You need to make sure your transfer case isn't leaking though, as that is what kills them. Have the recall done if you haven't yet.

If you ask me, they are very reliable cars. I have had barely any problems with either of my mitsus. I think they have a bad reputation because they are stock turbo cars. People stupidly buy them thinking they can just turn up the boost and get a fast car. Some of these cars are 17 years old and they need TLC to keep them going.

One problematic area is the timing belt, since they are interference engines. Many people don't do the maintenance in this area and end up doing way more damage. The transmissions are also a weak point as they have bad syncros in a lot of the trannies and the fluid really DOES make a difference in the way the tranny will shift.

Spend a few hours just reading past posts and I'm sure you will learn a ton. Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys, yeah I def wont be turning up the boost for a long while gonna leave it as is STOCK!

You heard wrong, They are only unreliable if they were beat on or owned by some idiot that didn't know what he/she was doing with it.

Not true, mine was owned by the last 4 years by an idiot chick. She beat the shit out of it. I saw her drive. As long as they are left stock, they can take lots of abuse. :)
