I've been reading about MS for the past 3 hours, and I still don't know what to order for my 1G. I've been looking at this website MegasquirtI know to order the DIY kit, but as far as anything else, I'm lost. I'm a student in EE (electrical engineering) so understanding about the board and assembly is what i do everday. Figured it would be a good project for me in my spare time this winter.
My future plans for the car:
Either E316G or 50 trim, not quite sure yet
FMIC, probally ssautocrap kit
Probally will run water/meth injection, depends on my boost levels and timing (have 93 octane here)
I have a 1G fwd, so not looking for crazy power, just something fun for the street and occasional track.

I do have a 255lph pump, AFPR, and a set of 550cc injectors in the closet, just havent installed them yet. However i have a feeling 550's are going to be too small for me.
I'm just a little lost as far as what i need to order to make a complete install. Also i have been reading on the forums, and still don't fully understand whether MS will replace my stock ECU, or use it just for fuel trims. If it does replace the ECU, is timing fully adjustable? Is this a complete standalone system?
Im sorry if i ask too many questions, its 1:30am here and i've been reading for the past few hours, but still dont fully understand it. It seems the forums aren't fully answering my questions, they just don't seem to go in depth far enough for me. If anyone has any helpful info that can at least get me started feel free to help me out.

Wow. Didn't know all that info was on here. Thanks for the info. (I'm not precise enough with searching i guess.)

Yea, i had to take a double take when i first clicked on it. I'm gonna hold off for a while before i order the kit. I'd rather read up more on it, understand it better before i go and buy parts for my install. I'd rather do all the soldering at once, rather than pull it back out and solder in more parts later down the road. Plus i gotta read up on tuning a little more. Thanks for the info by the way. Much appreciated.

I think you could use alot of other stuff WAY before you will need water injection.

save your cash, and do the basics first.

Decide on your power goals and chose you managment and start tunning. If you go DSMlink or a stg 3 DSMchip with extended pump gas timming maps you can run up to 25 psi with no knock.

Well the thing is I don't have an EPROM ecu, so there is about $150-300 spent on just an ecu, when i could spend another $100 and have a full stand alone system that I built and tuned myself. I'm the type of person who likes to tinker with stuff, so I think this is going to be the route I'm going.

WTF wtf are you talking about? Megasquirt is a full standalone engine management system. It ended up only being $3xx for me.

If you ever plan on running over ~23lbs get a better map sensor than what comes with the kit.

Thanks for the info. Are you running a full Megasquirt setup(MSnS), or using another device for spark? I think im going to order it with the extra code, but just do the 'Squirt for now, and once i establish a good tune i will add in the spark as well.
I would really like to see a DSM running with a full setup, but no one in my area has it. They either run Dsmlink or keydiver chips, so not too many people in my area can help me out if I run into problems.

I run the full deal. I love it and can't say anything bad about it. All you need are the forums and a good understanding of the system.

I was trying to find the msefi.com write up that my friend did for install. Several people have used it now, all with great success.

I live in Rockland, ME. I haven't uses Megasquirt on my talon, but i did build and installed it on the 91 saturn i used to have. It was turbo'd running 20 psi. I was also just using for fuel, with an MSD DIS2 Digital, J&S Safeguard, and stock ECU for sparkI haven't played with the megasuirt for a couple years now, but it is pretty easy. I could lend a hand if you needed.

Tom, thanks for the offer. I appreciate it. I'm not going to have the 'Squirt system hooked up atleast till the spring though. But if i need a hand, i will look you up, since Rockland isn't that far from Bangor.
