help with back fire

hello , i own a eclipse 2g 1995 gst automatic

car is newly bought , as i know not many mods on car, it has boost controller and bov thats all

today when i was pressing on the pedal while car is on neutral, i pressed too much and while doing it several times , back fire was came out of the exhaust
litterly like back fire
so thought its an upgrade in the car , but obviously its not an upgrade....
so whats the problem? is it safe to do it later on? does it damage my car?
should it be fixed? is it fine to keep it there? help out please

How does the car run while driving? Normal driving? WOT?

yeah it drives normally , not big issue , sometimes when changing gear it jumps ( back fire spits but no flame goes out)

maybe that turbo lagg , im not sure ( dont know much

yeah i did maintince long time ago , owning car for like 6 months now
