ok i have a 97 talon and every time i get up in to boost the car back fires on me and i dont have no power..and the most of the time it is doing this is when i it really cold out side...it happens when im at like 5 or 6k rpm i know im running rich cause im shooting fire out my exhaust..but what can the back fire be it dont feel like fuel cut so any thing will help thanks..

check everything!
do a compression test, a boost leak test, and figure out if you are running rich or not!
Check the plugs for excess fuel or signs of burning rich or lean, ect!

Not trying to be a D, but is this your first dsm? How long have you had it? and have you ever worked on a car?

You must check the small things and work out the problems! its Quite hard for me or anyone else to help you with the info you supplied us with!
i say pop the hood check this stuff out and come back with your results, then ask more indepth question!

no its not my 1st dsm and yes i have checked every thing spark plugs are good and i have done a boost leak test and there is nothing i have no check engine light but like i said it just back fires at 5 or 6k rpm..i have a 20g turbo intercooler feul pump and i have fic 750 injectors but i have not put them in yet i need to get a safc and tune them in...i know what im talking about and i have worked on cars and well shit dsms and this is the only thing im having a prob with and need a lil help with it thats all....not trying to be a D...and compression test i have not done so i will do that next and go from there but thanks..

yes but the injectors are not in yet i never put them in cause i know it would really mess things up..i know i need to trun the boost down but i dont have a boost controller and my intercooler dose not have any where to but a line to for the wastegate to the boost controller..so the boost that im at i think can be a lil bit of the prob but if not what eles can it be??

So, you have a 20g running uncontrolled boost levels, a 255 pump with no AFPR and also no way to tune. What is your wideband reading, what psi are you at when the backfire starts, does it drop or increase.

the boost is at 18 19 psi and that is when it back fires and yea there is like almost no power when it dose that...it never gos over 19 that is the highest boost i have got but befor i put my intercooler on it was at 16 so i know the extra boost is from the intercooler but the tun is what im going to do next asap but just asking what u guys think..

Your whole setup sounds suspect to me, just saying. And the only way to know what your car is doing when it backfires is to get a logger or even just a wideband so you know what the fuel is doing.

sorry i didn't mean to offend you, it was just your first post on the forum and you didn't state much of what exactly was happaning nor did you state anything youve done!

im not trying to argue i am simply appologizing for misunderstanding you and the lack of info you provided!

You are most likely not getting power because of the running rich problem, which inturn is causing you to backfire from unburnt fuel in the exhaust combusting!

Your running a 20g at 18+psi with 450cc inj?
what fuel pressure are you running?
Now that i think about it, if you running such small inj with the amount or air that a 20g can push at 18+psi im wondering why your running rich and not lean!?
What type of MAF are you using?
Stock 1g MAF, 2g MAF, evo MAF, or GM MAF?
a 20g at 18psi should most likey throwing you into fuel cut at 5-6k rpm untuned... my 14b at 20psi was causing fuel cut at around 6.5-7k before i tuned it for 20psi!

And a Question?
Are you sure you're running Rich??
cause running lean can cause backfiring aswell!!
The mixture becomes so severely lean that it will not ignite in the combustion chamber Since the mixture did not burn, just like the rich scenario, gas starts to collect in the exhaust system. When enough gas collects the mixture in the exhaust is no longer lean and bang.

If you read the Wiki completely it states in there aswell!

i hope all goes well and you figure this out!

no its cool man i understand where u are coming from...no disrespect thanks for what u are telling me.and yea my 1st post but i just got on and started use this forum but when it come to the dsm i know not evert thing but i know alot....i mean the car smells like gas the exhaust smells like gas and and yea the stock 2g maf fuel pressure not to sure there is some stuff that im getting that i have not got yet..stock injectors with nothing to tune...

its not my car it my friends car and all the work that i have done to it has been perfect but as soon as i put on his intercooler the boost went higher and the backfire/fuel cut was happening..i have told him so many times to get some thing to tune his car with and he has not....his prob not mine but im trying to help out like u guys are helping out..

so yea every thing i have checked it is all in good working order..the car will back fire at 5 6k rpm lose power boost wont go over 18 19 psi...but it will only do it most of the time is when its really cold out side so i dont know i guess ill check every thing all over again turn down the boost do a log and give a tune and go from there thanks guys..
