I rotated my block 25 times and I put in the CAS. When I try to start the car it seems that it is going to start, but instead it backfires. I do not know if that means that it jumped time, or if there is something else that could have gone wrong. I checked the timing again and it seems that it is okay and I am running out of options. I need suggestions as to what else could possibly be wrong. It has done this one time before and I was able to get it started. I do not know if maybe it could be that I need to change my ECU. Please, any suggestions.

late ignition timing could cause this or an excessive amount of fuel in the exhaust system. could have a bad distributor cap, bad spark plugs, bad ignition condensor, bad plug leads, or to much fuel getting to carburetor system

Is the Backfire coming from the Tailpipe area or the Engine Compartment area?

Signs of backfire can also be caused by Vacuum Leaks in and around the Intake Manifold Base Gasket areas, and the Carb. Base or Throttle Body Base, and in any of the many different Vacuum hoses/lines depending on your make or model.

I say get the owners manual if you have one & start trouble shooting. It'll definitly come in handy.

hope this helps:thumb:...

I never knew dsm's came with a carburetor:ohdamn: and we have coils too LOLz. To help the op out. Check for boost leaks. Check to make sure that you havent switched the plug wires and ran them the wrong way. I've have my CAS 180* out and it still ran fine LOL. A little miss. It could be an ECU, or it could be something like a bad alternator as well. Please dont listen to the guy above me. Good luck to you.

I think that I may have found the problem. I was checking to see if there was a spark coming from each of the spark plugs and the #1 and #4 plug does not produce a spark. I believe that it is probably the coil pack that needs to be replaced. I do not know if that would produce a back fire.
