Probably had the engine at one point then got removed. Make sure he has the car before you give him any money at all.

Either way, ls1 or 6bolt or a rocket engine swap, if you picked it up for a grand then it wouldn't be bad. I don't know what all is involved with a 6 bolt swap but as long as it is all done and it only needs the engine then it wouldn't be bad.

If the body OR the interior is clean I'll offer him 2k. Thanks guys!

$2000 for a shell is way too much. I see some 2g's that run and drive for $2000 Good luck with your purchase though...

What a bunch of low ballers we have here. If its a mint shell with everything BUT the motor, i say 1500 is a good price. If its really mint with low miles i would even do 2000

the economy sucks so does the buyers market. Take advantage of it....:aha:

Big variation in suggested values. That usually means the research hasn't been done. Continue to compare prices and conditions. I would start with an end price for the completed car that I want to build and break it down into components, then figure a price that fits in your budget and settle on a fair price because he isn't going to sell it for dirt cheap unless he desperately needs money.

First I would check around the area and see what a comparable DSM in running condition is selling for. 2d, I would find out how much it's going to cost to get a good engine installed. Subtract that price from the selling price. That will give you a ball park idea of what to give for the car.

Keep in mind the seller is going to go whichever way makes him the most money.

No way I would pay $2000 just for a shell.

I see shells in my area for $1,400 with a tranny but I'll look into it more.

I'd offer $700-800 for one in overall "decent" conditions. Dings, dents, scuffs, tears, fading, whatever. On up to $1200 for a pristine body and interior. Just depends on all the little stuff you can find wrong with it. High mileage really shouldn't matter if everything else looks in order (in regards to rust, maintenance) since there isn't a motor involved here! Transmission could have been swapped too, so the mileage reading wouldn't be accurate there either. For that matter, someone could have switched the gauge cluster, too! LOL
