Ok, so I have a red 99 gsx.... paint is in great condition. When I was initially looking for a chassis, I really really wanted one that was already black. I happened to come upon a great deal for a red one so i bought it.

I now have an offer thats come up recently. The red roller I have has 115k on the clock, but the body is really almost perfect, there is absolutely no rust, the underside of the car has been coated and has no rust either. When under my car if you need to break a bolt loose with a ratchet, you seriously do not have to worry about anything falling into your eyes, its that clean.

So, this offer.... Well the guy has a black 99 gsx (exactly what i was looking for) but its a northern car. Its clean (for northern car standards) under the car, there are very noticeable sun faded spots on the cars roof, spoiler, and quarter panel. The car and engine are original and have 79k on the odo.

Yes, I want the car because of its color, and mileage. But the condition it is in, not to mention the brand new aftermarket parts on my red roller compared to the stock and worn parts on his black gsx....

I already have a 2.3 stroker and a tre high torque trans that ill be keeping, so if i did make the deal then i would drop the 2.3 & trans in there, then sell the 99 stock block and tranny so i can purchase another set of D2 coilovers (these are already in my red gsx). The problem comes in when i have to drop thousands on a paint job.

What would you do?

Yes true, im not looking to get a rusted car by any means, which is why ive asked for a bazillion pictures. Obviously ill need to send someone to go see the car in person since he is much farther away.

Honestly idk how i feel about it, the red is starting to grow on me. And what you are talking about, changing the color. I'm definitely not the kind of DIY guy to go that far. I'm not ashamed to say that i have limited experience when it comes to body work. Being that said, it would literally cost an arm and a leg for a paint job.

Save yourself a headache, stick with what you have. No rust and you already have it. I had a black 1g and eventually got in a red 2g spyder, and yes..i liked black better, but the red has certainly grown on me a lot.

Keep what you have. I bought a 99 gsx here in KY about a year ago and everytime i fix something i find another rusty bolt behind it. by the time you fix every little problem you could eventually have the same amount as a paint job.

I'd rather have a fully none rusted car than a fully built car.
Parts, paint, all that, can be replaced.
The frame is all that is important to me.

I bought a rusted car and its broken bolt after broken bolt after broke bolt AFTER BROKEN BOLT. Its almost frustrating to break into an area I previously havent because i know whats in store. Ive spent hours on hours on rust removal and treatment and its a giant pain in the donkey. Just keep your car , sounds like you could eat dinner off of it anyways. Plus i had a black GST and got sick of the color realllll fast
