I have a 95 eclipse gst. The motor was just rebuilt forged rods forged pistons cometic gasket, head rebuilt ss valves etc. all the good stuff lots of money....

anyhow the mechanic called me today told me it was ready I picked it up drove about 40 miles and boom the car stalled. I tried to start it and nothing .... I called the mechanic he had me check the voltage on the battery which is one day old.. it was find check this check that... He then told me to check the timing belt I told him nope it looks good its still tight and not torn. I have my friend watch it while I tried to start the car again and it isn't even moving now!

I am freaking out lots of money into the car and I don't even know where to start or what to expect. Please fellow DSMers help me!:cry::cry::cry::cry:

DUDE! take them through the ringer for what they did! its waisted your time and money on something that doesnt work.

What are his mom, dad, and brother for? Do they work in his shop? I seriously doubt it. And if they say they do then tell the guy to prove it by supplying copies of paychecks or some shit.

Why would he bring his family?

moral support after he loses ROFL

Hey man good luck! I subscribed to this thread! I want to know how this all plays out!

Ill admit im new to dsm world but I have been to wyotech for automotive technology and high performance engines and worked in diesel shops and worked with 20 + year mechanics the first thing I ever learned was when you take stuff apart lay it out in the order in which it came apart

"xpertsoldier" definitely has a good chance i was referring to the shop needing moral support after they end up paying the damages.... as long as op sticks to the facts and shows proper documentation its a no brainer.... BUT if he gets sidetracked and emotional he will lower that probability

Sounds like a similar experience with my friends 3000GT. He had a shop do a bunch of work on it because he didn't have the time. Well when we went to do a bunch of upgrades on it we found all sorts of fubared stuff they did.

We went to court and lost. The judge was clueless mechanically and he didn't even look at the major things wrong we were showing him. The whole time he was hung up on one stupid thing which we barely cared about.

Good luck in court. I hope your outcome is better then ours.

One thing i learned about judges they have a heard it all mindset (which most of them have) so u have to water it down as much as u can to make sure a child could understand it while still being firm and as stubborn in what your attemting to accomplish.

I had a shop go through my engine as well I recieved thar and was told it was good to go I took it started driving it and turns out the mechanic forgot to put the plu back in the side of the engine and it puked all oil out on the highway and destroyed my forged internals engine.

Had it towed back to the shop he put a plug back in and told me the rod knock I know had was just a lifter tick and not to worry about it. Im a kid but IM not a dumbass that doesnt know anything about cars. I took it to another mechanic and he stripped it down and showed me what was wrong.

Definately not just a lifter tick and that shop will never get my buisness or any of my friends buisness if I can help it.

Honestly Idk if you have the time, but just with a haynes manual, you should be able to do a complete rebuild. THe only thing I would double check is tq specs, but haynes is right about 99% of the time.

Sorry for the delayed post it has been a busy weekend. He putbhis whole family on stand all of them lied of course. In the end I ha a ton of documentation pictures everything showing the bearings had to be in order. He tried to tell the judge a bearing is a bearing. He showed pics of crank bearings go figure anyhow I asked for 1500 and got about 915 so not a bad day. He already paid me that day he also tried to get me to sign something saying I won't sue him anymore... I declined he messed up the paint on my hood so I may take him back to court for that

Good to hear you got everything straight and for that reason is why I do all my own work if I can help it. Learn some leasons the hard way but at least it's only your own fault and saved money not paying for labor. Congrats again on coming out ahead
