help buying a DSM..

Hey guys, I am thinking of buying my first dsm this weekend. Before I do i have a few questions. first off, the car is a '97 Eclipse GSX with 80k miles, and it has an intake, and exhaust already installed on it. when i went to check it out earlier this week, i started the car up, and it idles fine, and i checked for the ticking sound next to the timing belt to see if maybe it has early signs of crankwalk. As i revved the car up, i could tell that it was running really rich (by the strong smell of gas) and the next thing i did was check under the hood for any kind of boost controller. There is no manual or electronic boost control in the car (which doesnt mean that the guy couldnt have taken it off before he traded it in). So my main question about the car is what could possibly be making it run so rich? I was thinking maybe the guy had the wrong plugs in? Im not sure, but i know that if i do purchase the car, the first mod i will be doing is an Apex'i SAFC II. Thanks for all your help.

Don't bump your threads and learn to research on this site. A lot of people are just going to tell you to search because this has been answered a million time's. Which it has. Our cars just run rich from the factory. Unless you smelled a lot of gas under the hood, maybe there is a fuel leak. Lower injector seals like to go out on our cars. If there is no leak then it is just normal. Probably doesn't have a cat, or has a high flow cat on the car.
