Somewhere in BC,
Hey guys on a cold start my car squeals when i turn my wheels or step on the gas but today i took my car to the shop and they tightened my alternator and power steering belts everything seemed find and the sound went away but now the battery and brake lights show up dim looking on my gauges and when i went to park my car in the shop as soon as i but it in neutral and set my ebrake car by i self starts to rev my engine non stop at idle seems like someone is pressing the gas then lets go over and over i have never seen this before any ideas guys?

Rix.

I just did a boostleak test and fixed the big leaks this idle surge just happend around same time those batt and brake lights came on could it be the low batt / alternator causing the idle surge?

Take a VOM meter and put it across the battery with the car idling.

If you're getting less than 11 volts across the battery, ALT is kaput.

Time for a new ALT ... and plan on a new battery since bad batteries kills ALTs in a quick.

have it tested at the battery from Autozone or another parts store. Sounds like you may need a new 80 AMP alternator fuse. those same lights came on for me and the fuse is what teh problem was after I bought a new alternator.

..And that fuse is bolted in the fuse holder, not just plugged in. 10mm bolts on each end to undo the fuse.

Had one go out and it wasn't in the obvious portion of the fuse link. It opened up where the link was attached to the leg of the fuse.
